Jon Jones explains himself

Lotta fuckin casuals on here lmao.

Idgaf if you love or hate Jones nobody in the sport is walking thru him, he's proved that time and time again. Dudes a piece of shit but he's a one of the most durable fighters in MMA history, easily.
There are yeah. This forum complains that there aren't enough "names" on every single card. And a lot of people are suckers for a big deep voiced stoic Russian. Sergei is a dangerous fight for anybody because he only needs to connect a few times and the fighters done, but from a skillset point of view, it's night and day, he isn't close to Aspinall, no heavyweight is. To cut a long point short this place is full of casuals

Prime Jones yeah I'd agree nobody walks through him. Today's Jones? A guy like Tom is all kinds of wrong for him. Jones has lost his explosiveness and a lot of the athleticism he had early in his career.

On the feet against Gane he looked like he was wading through thigh high mud.

Tom is bigger, stronger, faster, hits harder, is a finisher of the like nobody Jones has never faced. He's as well rounded as anybody Jon has fought except maybe DC.

People are going to start realising eventually that Tom Aspinall is a rare talent at any weightclass, let alone HW. He's a problem for prime Jones, never mind the Jones that has been around the last 4 or 5 years.

we need to all troll him, the UFC, and get them to strip Jones of the title. No point to hold up 80% of 2024 for this pointless fight. that is absolute garbage and the only way to diminish your career.

It's already working.

TS only included one tweet but Jon is writing literal essays about Aspinall over on twitter. He's having some kind of psychotic episode.

His pretence of playing nice towards Tom has completely gone lol.

Stipe will not have won a fight in 5y or so, and will be 41 at the time.

That's how you want him in your resume? It's obvious Jones just wants to be able to say he beat the HW GOAT, even if Stipe is no longer anywhere near his prime.

Fair points but there's no reason to assume Jones has lost any of his durability. Not only that but the book is still out on Aspinall. He KO'd a big plodding hype job but he doesn't have any experience at the top of the game and that's where Jones has the opportunity to drown him.

Aspinall looks super promising but so far all his praise is the same shit people said about guys like Mitrione. Time will tell just how good Aspinall will be, I think he has a very high ceiling but not high enough that I'll disregard one of the all time greats for the new kid.

Could easily see Aspinall getting Gane'd early, he's still green.

Confirms that he's pretty much done, he ALSO knows what it's like to be a young and hungry fighter that destroyed legendary fighters. He doesn't wanna go out like that.

He isnt that old, but i doubt he sticks around fighting lower name HW's, Aspinall vs Jones would be absolutely sick.

To be fair, Jones is in a spot where any loss hurts his legacy more than whatever Aspinall or other HW's could add, Stipe has his share of loses already, whats one more KO to him.
What does he care about. Legacy. Or bodily harm, health and function for the rest of his life.

Did you hear Tenis players not wanting another match to not hurt their legacy.

He's 100% correct. Frankly it's nice to hear him say out loud what everyone pretty much already assumed anyway.

Of course the first reply that says "vacate the belt then" is also 100% correct, but I doubt he'll be as forthcoming about that

He pretty much confirms he's retiring after this fight.

I hope Stipe wins, he actually sounds like he might at least give Tom a chance to become undisputed.

How could Tom become undisputed. Is Dana going to co promote with PFL to setup a fight with Ngannou? To be undisputed you need all the titles not just one.

Watching Jones come to the end of his career, I can't help but think what would be if he didn't waste so much of it with the bans and periods of inactivity. He's in the top 3 for me as it is, but I wonder what we'd be saying now if he'd remained active over the whole course.

So , once we get done with the Jurassic park match then the ufc will anoint Tom or whoever as the rightful champion, but it’s confirmed that it’s illegal in the eyes of the ufc for young heavyweights to fight old heavyweights until further notice

Father Time is catching up.

I love Jon, and he’s the GOAT but he simply just has not done enough at Heavyweight yet. He needs to make his reign mean something (tough ask considering the dude has technically been champion for like what 14 years now?)

We all waited this long for Jon to go up to Heavyweight and DAMNIT a 40 second long fight with Gane isn’t good enough. you would think with the time he invested to size along with the time he has spent outside of fighting for causing trouble or now with an injury….all those years off you would think he would want to utilize this newfound strength and test himself like he always said he would.

Stipe is a small, old, chinny heavyweight who has suffered a KO loss to Jon’s sidechick DC. Sure he holds the title defense record whoopty fuckin doo, Stipe was mostly fighting other 40 year old chinny, multiple KO loss having fighters such as Overeem and Werdum when he was champion, Stipe did not fight those guys at their absolute best and will certainly not be at his own absolute best when it comes time to fight Jon.

Jon is going to poke Stipe in the stomach with teeps and destroy his knees with the instep kicks while Stipe struggles to get close enough to land a jab, and when Jon feels comfortable enough he launches forward, wraps his arms around Stipe’s upper body (with both of Stipe’s arms pinned inside of Jon’s grip) and proceeds to sweep him to side control and we witness a crucifix elbow tko finish.

I don’t want to see this fight at all, I don’t believe it has a chance to go any other way other than Stipe’s retirement. Hopefully Jon‘s sociopathic tendencies will make him take offense to Aspinall, and then he can retire.

Damnit Jon this is so frustrating to hear. Shoulda just stayed away if it was going to be like this.

Francis also sucks for leaving but I guess ya gotta do whatcha gotta do.

OK good for him. Now finish Stipe and get out of the ufc

Hey that's fine, retire on top with a big win against Stipe. I mean ideally for myself and I'm sure most of us. We would love to see a unified title fight against Tom Aspinall. Just our selfish selves speaking. But Jon is cementing his legacy. I guess to him beating Stipe will elevate his legacy and fighting Aspinall is too much of a risk.

Dear Jon Jones:
Hope you enjoyed trying out a HW fight that was to your liking. Fight who you want, when you want. But stop being an asshole and give up the belt today.

Dear UFC:
Strip him. Take that HW belt from him now. Aspinall has asked to fight Jones and was told no, so give him the belt for beating Pavlovich. None of this interim nonsense. What about Aspinall's legacy?
