Jon Jones doesn’t get enough credit for becoming two-weight UFC champion.

Well he's the GOAT in most people's eyes, I dare to say.

Steroids, wife beater, maniac notwithstanding

I give him credit for being a very innovative fighter.
GOAT? No way

He's literally had one fight with a guy who shit the bed the second the fight entered the grappling phase.

For his first defense after ages of sitting out, he's fighting another guy whose been inactive for ages, entering senior citizen era.

If anything, the Picto pulsing cheater gets far too much praise for anything regarding HW.

He gets exactly as much credit as he deserves. Everyone knew he was going to beat Gane, coming back when Francis left was Jones being a scared baby.

Man shut up. This wasn't the narrative leading up to that fight. It's only after Jones destroyed him that Gane is the easiest opponent, Gane sucks etc. Such a smelly little casual fan girl you are.
Not at all true. I was a big Gane fan, have gone off him recently as he has been ducking fights and trying to rank squat, but the only people that were giving him any chance, me included, noted specifically that he has to be able to stuff at least a few takedowns through a few rounds to make it interesting, and we all expected Jones to maul him if it hit the mat. The questions around that fight were what fat HW Jones would look like after so much time off. The fight went exactly the one way which was statistically most likely, the only surprising part being that Gane immediately shit the bed and couldn't last even half a round.

He ducked both of the champs, Tommy and Big Frank to fight old man Stipe. No credit earned, get out of here.

I'd stopped watching the sport when Jones beat Gane so couldn't tell you what the discussion was around the time of the fight, but what is known is he didn't beat a lineal champ, held the division up for years, only to fight a guy who hasn't won a retired guy who hasn't won a fight in half a decade.
At least with GSP he didn't hold the belt for a year then decide to defend against Rich Franklin after he won it.

jones is a cowardly champion, ngannou wake up and now aspinal. he better had stayed at his own weight

I give him credit for winning 2 belts and defending thats more than Conor ever did.
But its not really impressive. He beat Gane, sure a good win, then sits out for years wanting to fight old Stipe. I get the "legacy" and all but still..
IF he beats Stipe and THEN defend again... Lets talk.

Guy ducked HW for YEAAAARs then cherry picks and opponent that can't wreste.... he's getting way TOO MUCH CREDIT for this bullshit. Having him beat aspinall would prove something. This does NOT

a lot of time travellers in this thread lol

Jones beating Gane has actually aged extremely poorly. Gane was never ufc champ, had only about 10 pro mma fights, and got out wrestled by injured Ngannou just before this fight. He was way too inexperienced.

Jones has proven to be unwilling to truly test himself at heavyweight ever since, and at this point, no reasonable person really believes he ever will.

We barely saw Jones at HW, not enough time to prove anything, for all we know Gane could have had an off night. GSP at least lasted longer with Bisping and even took beatings.
That bisping looked horrid and should of lost the decision to dan.gane was a killer and still is

He fought for 2 minutes (he looked great in those 2 min) and then held the belt hostage for 2 years ducking the interim champ to fight an old man who hasn't won in 4 years.

He is also a multiple time PED cheat.

He is getting as much credit as he deserves, which is not a ton for the later portion of his career.

Respect is EARNED and making a mockery of the HW title doesn't achieve that.

Jon literally just said he would fight Alex before Tom, that's why he gets no credit
And my question is hiw can all these JBJ fans be ok with that. Where's all the "he's a MW" talk now?

People thought that Jon would jump to hw to fight the very best of the division. Jon himself even said that he wanted to replicate what he did at 205. Instead, he waited for Ngannou to leave, beats a french kickboxer (who got wresslefucked by a cameroonian striker) and is now looking to fight a 45 year old firefighter who hasn’t won a fight in almost 5 years.

Reminds me of Gsp avoiding Silva like the plague. He wasn’t gonna try his luck with Weidman, Rockhold, Whitaker either.
