it happens all the time & there's no reason for UFC to deny jones a title shot at HW especially since there are 0 interesting fights aside from ngannou vs gane
Just read my other replies, not going to repeat myself with this stupidity.

If he was confident about beating Stipe, he would just go ahead and do it. That would make the most sense. Now if he isn't that confident... Maybe he declines the fight and says he'll fight someone at some point next year but he's 'not ready yet'.
No, not from a business standpoint and we have to remember this is the fight business, its not like playing a little video game.

He's the best fighters on the roster with the best record. He wants a title shot and he wants to get paid. Stipe is coming off a brutal loss and sadly on his way down.

There is little to no benefit to fighting Stipe at this point for him. When there was an incentive, Jones wanted to fight Stipe and Dana said, "No".

Jon is not fighting at HW. Jon knows if he wanted to fight for the title he was next in line.

It only makes sense if he wants to fight once for the title. If that's the case, if he just wants to be a one-off diva, then fuck him. He said he was going to heavyweight, so be a heavyweight. Beat Stipe and gear up for the title fight. Increase your credibility and earning power. Create the hype for the Ngannou/Game fight. Unless... You don't think you can beat old wore down Stipe

Like I said, its business move and hes been undefeated for a decade.
It the logical, intelligent thing to do for a successful fighter. Again its not a video game.

Jones is unquestionably the greatest MMA fighter of all time. The idea of him having to work his way to a title shot when moving up is ridiculous.

GSP, Conor, DC, Cejudo, Izzy, Randy, and others all got immediate title shots.

I think Jones is waiting for Derreck Lewis to somehow win the HW title.

i don't blame jones for not taking this fight. but he also has to stop talking about fighting at heavyweight, until he actually signs a fight. he's a light-heavyweight, masquerading as a heavyweight.

jones being the goat is highly debatable. one of the greatest, no doubt.

I don’t know if many read the article. But it’s winklejohn saying this. And he says i would assume Jon feels the same as I do.

the only fight Jones should have is for a title.

or as einklejohn said. If he felt like he needed a fight to get accumstomed to heavyweight which I don’t think he does.

I’d love to see the fight. Jones would make stipenlook like an amateur and the fans would say stipe is a shell of himself so there isn’t any win for jones in the fight.

I don’t think it’s debatable at all. He’s been the top guy since he was like 22. And never lost to this day. while having as good as a resume from the start of his career until the end. He won the title after a couple of years of fighting and faces everybody.

Fedor is the other best fighter I’ve ever seen and I don’t know how the fight would go but even with bias towards fedor it would be both guys biggest challenge.

Didn't they offer him the title fight shortly after Francis won?

well, you just stated fedor. don't forget gsp, even though i don't like him as a fighter. jones arguably has lost three times, to gus, santos, and undoubtedly reyes.

I don't have an MBA but imo, it would be better business to make a good payday off beating Stipe, get the hype going and then pull in an enormous payday for the title--rather than just holding his dick in his hand.

He has millions at stake, I cant imagine any intelligent business manager would advise the best fighter in the world fighting an aging former champion.

But ultimately its his money and career, and given the circumstances with millions at stake, most would do the same.

haha. There is no argument
He won, its on his record, none of those guys convinced the judges or more importantly actually beat him like he did Shogun, who beat Lyoto, who beat Rashad.
Just because you dont like it, doesnt make it reality

well it's not just me who thinks this way. go look at what the general press and other fighters said about those fights. most of them gave those fights to jones' opponents. i have two eyes, just like the other non-judges. bad decisions from judges aren't the end-all. public opinion is a lot more credible.

They lost, its ancient history. If biased mob opinion mattered, the sport would have judges.
Santos was hospitalized and unable to fight for a year after receiving a clinic
