Jon Jones declines Stipe fight

So, does anyone give a shit about JBJ anymore? I know I dont.

Weird turning down the fight. I would be ok with him getting a title shot given his success at LHW, but that’s only if there’s no other suitable contender.

Actually I saw a tweet a couple months or so ago where Jones specifically said “I’m not fighting Stipe”. Get your facts straight.

You mean in deleted tweets after Dana White tried to sell it to the media in Houston as a shitty negotiation tactic?

No fake news around here <JonesDXSuckIt>

When you re one of the goats/former champ with multiple defences and probably the biggest ppv in Ufc (outside of conor)

I probably should have included Dillishaw, Cejudo, GSP, Couture also.

They all went up or down and got championship fights.
How many of those moved up a weight class then sat for years vs being given an opportunity because they were active...?

Why would he fight a former champ at this point especially after he was looking for a money fight against the HW champion.
Perfectly logical move especially for an undefeated champion
If he was confident about beating Stipe, he would just go ahead and do it. That would make the most sense. Now if he isn't that confident... Maybe he declines the fight and says he'll fight someone at some point next year but he's 'not ready yet'.

When does being inactive in a weight you've never even fought in lead to a championship fight?

GSP
conor
holloway
dillashaw
cejudo
amanda
vitor
chael
pettis
edgar

it happens all the time & there's no reason for UFC to deny jones a title shot at HW especially since there are 0 interesting fights aside from ngannou vs gane

I don’t understand this. Most of us can agree that Jones would run through Stipe. He is just better in every aspect. This would have been a great way to show that he is without a doubt the next contender for the HW belt

Most of us don't have to get into the cage with Stipe, so our opinions about running through him are somewhat irrelevant. Stipe probably looks like a much harder fight when you're the one who actually has to face. Everything's easy if you don't have to do it yourself.

GSP was retired for four years and had never fought at MW when he was given the Bisping title fight. Its all about money. Challenge, legacy, even fear are things fans think about. For professionals its about money -- every fight, especially as they get older, has a risk vs reward element, and both the risk and the reward are measured in dollars. Even talk of legacy and challenge are just there to keep fans paying to watch them, because in the end the fights they take are all about money rather than challenge or legacy.

Every fight is a monetary risk/reward gamble. A loss risks losing a lot of future earnings (either because you lose your drawing power, or because you're injured and potentially never able to fight at your previous level again -- GSP ran into that with his knee injury), a win has the potential of not only the pay-out for the win but in being a bigger draw in the future. Though I hate to be a cynical old man, the one thing life shows again and again is that when it comes to business, follow the money because it'll rarely be wrong (and remember professional fighting is a million dollar business for guys like Jones).

Yes of course?

I think Jon is annoying and often times a despicable human, but he's unarguably one of the greatest fighters of all time. Aside from being undefeated, he has the most impressive strength of schedule ever even attempted in the upper weight divisions.

We know from court filings the UFC is paying an embarrassing 18% of revenue to fighters. That includes all bonuses, PPV points, even the insurance plan. It is highway robbery out in the open.

So now the GOAT 205lbs champion and the current, literal baddest man on the planet, Ngannou, are both on the sidelines because they won't pay these guys a remotely reasonable cut of the money they generate.

UFC is bush league and its an embarrassment. Pay these guys.

He wins a toss up split decision with a legless Santos, then got a gift decision with Reyes looking the worst he's ever looked, then relinquished the belt to go up in weight, then demanded a heap of money to fight Ngannou which he didn't get, and now he rejects a top fight and wants a title shot at HW despite inactivity.

Yeah, sorry, but I don't give a flying fuck about Jon Jones.
