Jon Jones can't fight off the back foot

Tom would need to figure out how to close the distance without getting his legs oblique kicked into Bolivia and back. Not and easy task with Jones' leg reach. Especially after Tom's broken leg, Jones' will be looking to injure and win by any means necessary.
Then Tom would take him down quite easily. Try kicking somebody in the legs while they're shooting for a takedown, you're going down

It was a bizarre strategy by Stipe.

He has built most of his success on utilising forward pressure like the 2nd JDS fight, and yet for some reason he decided to have a kickboxing fight with Jon.

I wonder what @Final Say thought about it?

Jones 1245, Reyes 3. Jones 145 is absolutely clear if you even try to assess damage as you're supposed to, and rounds two and three aren't actually difficult to score. And, of course, in retrospect it's pretty easy to tell who did the most damage in the first three rounds by noticing who was more broken in the last two, which is a problem with round-by-round scoring; later rounds really do provide information on what happened in earlier rounds.

Basically, Reyes didn't do anything that counted as progress towards finishing the fight while Jones was doing damage all fight except for in Round 3.
Oh so you didn't watch it, got it, thanks for confirming.

Next time just say that, it is a lot less embarrassing that way.

Jones kicks seem to pack more power at HW, and his eye jabbing seems still good to discourage closing distance. He still has his wrestling/throws when you get close as well, that was slick what he pulled on Stipe. Jones is just a nightmare. Maybe someone like Cro Cop could get pressured and not have any answer, but Jones manages distance great. He hasn't used an oblique kick in a while, but Stipe was open for that all fight. It's strange how people can cherry pick a few bad performances, while overlooking all the times he's had success. I think even with Aspinall, if he doesn't land the early blitz, he's spending the rest of the round on his back until he's out of gas.

And which one of these slow plodding unathletic HW’s is going to exploit this supposed flaw? Gane is one of the best moving heavyweights and he got taken down for his efforts of overcommitting.

Jones has a higher chance of losing to a more agile LHW than anyone in the current HW roster.
Tom moves well for a HW obviously and has the wrestling/BJJ that Gane has zero of.

It’s a fight we need to see if we wanna know who the best HW in the world is.

Jon beating the guys Francis already beat doesn’t tell us anything. Especially one coming off 4 years at 42.

Jon looked very good and stipe didn’t look very good at all. The takedown was super slick and while stipe took damage down there, I think the early body shots paid off the most. They slowed him down when he already started slow, he winced and reacted badly every time Jon touched his body. Stipe couldn’t get much off even before the takedown and was useless after the first round.

Spinning back kick was crazy. The speed and power on that may not have ever been seen at heavyweight prior to that fight. Insane way to finish, props to Jon for that.

Just not sure how much stock we can put into his heavyweight career yet. Would absolutely love to see him fight Tom next.

Yeah, 2 fights did that, like you said, but they did not beat him (fyi Reyes lost, let's not give wrong info here). JJ may also have adjusted to this, they are also trying to adjust to what is visible as their weakness.
When I say Reyes won it's in the context of the forum where everyone knows the controversy of the fight.

So how stupid is stipe though, taking his sweet time and not reacting to his own corner. Then waits for Jon to come to him and got pieced up
Like 95% of Jon's opponents have thought that was a great strategy

Did anyone notice Jon only had the gas tank for one round of grappling?

There’s levels brother, the way Jon is doing this is pure art… elite level MMA at its finest. Ngannou going 1-1 with Stipe and waiting until Cormier knocked him out doesn’t impress me… neither did his sloppy performance against Gane whom he barely squeaked by simply because Gane gave up top position to go for a leglock.

Also Toms weaknesses play into Jones strengths… his cardio is sus and his knees are compromised. He’d run right into an oblique kick if he over pressures Jones.

If I was Gane I'd wake up nightly in horror remembering that leglock stupidity

Sweet Jesus...

I honestly don't think he gassed grappling that long. Stipe didn't provide much resistance while getting elbowed. Stats say Jones didn't attempt a takedown after round 1, but I remember him going for one and not really getting it, so he switched back to striking. Also at that point Stipe wasn't pressuring as much anymore, so he was hanging back which I think didn't give Jones much opportunity for takedowns.

Saying that Reyes is my hero will not make your argument valid , I don't care about Reyes , and I never said that he won the match, jones got his arse kicked and got a gift .

Well why you Jones huggers don't want him to fight Aspinall for undisputed?

If he is so great , dealing with Aspinall will be a walk in the park, Jones is used to smash cans like OSP , The Janitor and Brandon Vera. So a weakling like Aspinall will be easy for the GOAT.
Did you say Reyes kicked Jones ass? The guy that ran most of the fight and did zero damage? Please explain how Reyes kicked Jones ass when he literally did nothing?

Guess what? Jones kicked your hero Reyes ass that's why he got the win. Now go cry more about it.

When did I ever say I do not want Jones to fight your man crush Aspinall? Please enlighten me?

We all know when Jones beat your hero Aspinall you will make an excuse to discredit Jones win and then say he is ducking the next fighter you are ready to nut ride.

So OSP, Vlad and Vera are the only fighters you can think of Jones smashed?

We know you are too butt hurt to mention all the other champions and top contenders he smashed too like Machida, Shogun, Rampage, Rashad, Bader, Vitor, Gus 2x, Gane, Glover, Cormier 2x, Stipe.

Now lets talk about why your hero Aspinall ducked Francis, waited until Francis left the UFC to call out a old washed up Light Heavyweight well past his prime.

Gane is much younger and bigger than Jones. And guess what? Jones still won.

Half the fighters on Jones resume are 10 years older than Jones, the janitor is almost 20 years older than Jones. What a joke.

I noticed it as well. Jon very clearly slowed down after round 1.

Took all of round 2 easy to recover.

He did look like he had his 2nd wind by round 3 though.

Name the fighters on Jones resume that is 10 years older than him? I will wait to see what bullshit you come up with?

Andre Gusmao
Stephan Bonner
Matt Hammill
Brandon Vera
Vladimir Matyshenko
Vitor Belfort
Chael Sonnen

Rampage Jackson and Lyoto Machida just miss the cut off at 9 years older.

Cormier is 8 years older.
