The way things are going with Jones, I won't be surprised to see the legendary bribe judge Cecil Peoples back for this event, and he can bring his pre-filled out scorecards

Judge 1: Jones 48-47
Judge 2: Stipe 49-46
Cecil Peoples: Jones 92-16

Winner by split decision and Still UFC HW champion, Johnny Bones Jones

The only eyepoke that stands out is the one DC landed right before Stipe got ko'd.

It makes me happy knowing that Stipe showed him who's boss.
It's not true it's the only one that stands out. there are multiple threads online about the "trilogy of eye pokes" regarding them both, literally posters made in this thread.. Remove your bias and it's obvious to me Stipe was heavily associated with eye poking, regardless of how many times he's done and under what narrative.

I don't blame Stipe for eye poking Cormier. He got poked several times by Cormier and he finally had enough. It's the same as a low blow. After getting kicked in the nuts a few times, a guy may choose to throw one back to let the cheater know how it feels.

Noone remembers Stipe's eyepoke against Cormier. We all remember Cormier's multiple pokes. Especially the one where Stipe is backing up with his hand covering his eye, and Cormier chasing him looking for a cheapshot finish. He finally got the eyepoke and finish after multiple tries.

The new gloves that are supposed to make it harder to eye poke? Jon got the company to change those. OK then.

Jones being the GOAT of eyepoking. Stipe having a legendary big and stationnary head. White being a sucker for his undefeated champ while not liking Stipe - remember the belt being taken live from his hands by Stipe so that his coach can put it on him for all to see ...

I predict eyepokes by round 2 if Jones have some difficulties, round 1 if lack of confidence or bribed referee.

It's a chronology thing.

Stipe has never been known - as far as I know - as an eyepoker it's entire career before Cormier.
First fight Cormier eyepoked the shit outta him, one sided cheating, and got a nasty KO out of it. Then it was on by the second fight, eyepoke galore - wich for a guy with a smaller reach isn't the greatest setting.

Not sure about the eyepoking career of Cormier before Jones, but he sure did become an eye-seeking mummy after their fights.

I guess it's like a vampiric plague, the eyepoked become a eyepoker.
Or more prosaically, the guy getting fucked other by an unpunished cheater will eventually go down the same road. No repercussions and net positive so why not ?
Plus sometimes a bit of sweet revenge.

Nethertheless, it's simply hilarious to see the new "no more eyepokes" gloves wanted from fans and clean fighters both go out of the window the day JJ comes back.
I mean, common. A bit of critical thinking. JJ is their prodigy, on the road to a flawless career on paper, and Stipe had always so so relations at best with White.

I'm starting to think Jon actually sits on the executive board of the UFC.

I'll never understand. In the first fight Stipe literally tried to figure out DC's eye with his thumb. I use to have a gif of it on an older phone because people would always deny it. I never said Stipe tried to do it on purpose but it happened in the first fight.

It's just like the people who bitch about stoolgate but completely glaze over the fact that Kennedy held onto Romero's gloves, preventing him from lifting his hands to protect his face, which directly led to the damaging strikes at the end of the round.

They want to bitch at Romero for following the ref's instructions (bjm broke the entire situation down on the JRE and told Tim and the world that Romero did nothing wrong and was just following his instructions and if Tim or anyone wanted to blame someone they should blame him) but act like holding onto someone's gloves isn't a bigger rule violation.

And I will say not all eye pokers are treated the same. People eviscerate Jon for his eye pokes but ignored or excused Gus for his eye poking when he did it just as much as Jon or even more.
