Budget is a huge factor. It's the reason Justice League is a flop despite pulling roughly $650 million at the box office. It's all about the break even point. Justice Leagues break even point was reportedly around $750 which is absurdly high.

Here's an interesting tidbit I found:

Split, by M. Night Shyamalan, was the year's most profitable film in terms of return on investment (ROI), having generated over 2,000% ROI. It is the 11th film to cross 2,000% ROI, and the first film to do so since 2015.[4]

haha according to that link Deep Throat has the highest return on investment of any theatrical movie.
Fun fact: While Deep Throat was undoubtedly a surprisingly successful movie that became mainstream and even became folkloric because of Watergate, it was produced and distributed by the mob (like most porn movies at the time) and the mob used the movie's success to launder money. The amount of money that film was reported to have made is highly inflated.

With your profile pic it's fitting you put out the porn tidbit

Joker is the first 10/10 I've given on a DL poll.

Get a load of this …. Joker > TDK, but Ledger > Pheonix.

Yeah, I know a fair amount about the porn industry because I used to do porn reviews in the early 2000s, some of which were published and are still available on IAFD (the IMDB of porn).

You so need to start a "I used to write p0rn reviews, AMA" thread.

have you seen 9 Lives of a Wet Pussy? the porno directed by Abel Ferrara under the pseudonym, Jimmy Boy L.

also, what do you think of Gerard Damiano’s other films? i love Let My Puppets Come; i personally rank it just slightly over Meet the Feebles.

Update: Saw it for the second time, this time in a premium theater with big screens and a kick ass sound system. It was a lot better than the first time, it really let me appreciate what a great movie it is. Also got into the theater a little earlier this time, but was still slightly late because of concession lines and shit. I think I'm gonna see it one more time in theaters...

Well sure she could’ve but I don’t think she did.

Even Alfred knew who he was instantly, even after 30+ years. His dialogue and acting showed those names were fresh in his memory and he understood the weight of it all.

Also painting Thomas Wayne as a typical rich asshole furthers my take on that plot point. Thomas wasn’t a good man at all. In fact he was a jerk every time he was on screen

alfred is probably vetting the mail being sent to Thomas. It’s plausible that with the constant mail being sent from penny he remembers or has at one point looked into the issue.

this film is from the perspective of the disenfranchised even what information we see is unreliable. Thomas Wayne being an asshole doesn’t make him a bad person it just means we are not living in a fucking fairytale where the good and powerful are suppose to be sympathetic and relatable at all times. We even see how the Arthur envisions how Murray would be if he was on his show.

Shit we know Arthur hallucinates, the scene with the 3 Wayne employees and the girl all could of been in his head and he in did just fucking murder those dudes.

edit: I am also starting to believe the entire movie takes place in Arthur’s head so anything portrayed is not going to be reliable

How does he do it? How does he completely transform right before our eyes?

Finally got around to seeing it. Definitely a good film but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece.

If everything was in his head, there would be no reason so show that the Sophie relationship was in his head. (Which I saw coming a mile away)

There are things that are clearly in his head, things that are real, and some left ambiguous. But imo the film clearly shows that not everything was in his head

lol good for you.

buds, this is legit the best movie i've seen in years.
It definitely was.

I think 'The theory of Everything' was the last movie I saw that got m as much as this. I also enjoyed the schlocky Birdman a lot for some reason. Hasn't aged well on tv, but I liked it at the theatre.

When I saw it some dude a few seats over sitting by himself spent 5 mins rifling through a backpack. Everyone around him was super tense waiting to make sure he didn’t pull out a gun. Strange times.

Who the hell is allowed to bring a backpack inside a theater? Don’t they check what’s inside? Such as if you snuck in food or etc?

I was working on the road and saw it in a shitty theater in Cleveland. Uber driver warned me it was not the best crowd. They had a security guy out front who I’m sure checked him but it was not nice a well run place.

I spent a few minutes contemplating whether I had a better chance making a run at him or for the exit. Thought about just walking out for a few minutes.
