If I'm DC/WB I call up Todd Phillips and JP and offer them all the money in the world to make a sequel

If JP declines, I would let Todd pick any DC comics character to make a solo film of

Mr Freeze or whoever
JP is reportedly okay with Doing a sequel an has been. It's actually Todd that's a little on the fence. But yeah ........ its at the point where a sequel is inevitable .. If Todd wont do it ......... might sound nuts but maybe get Tarentino ..

I'm just pleasantly surprised. Normally people talking for this long about a movie are usually putting it through the Wheel of Disrespect. It's nice to see people going on and on about something that really entertained them for a change.

I know I'm late to the party, but holy shit did that ending suck.

Had me completely on board throughout the whole film, then the ending just ruined it for me. The line where he literally says, "what do you get when you cross a mentally man with a society that treats him like shit", c'mon - that was such a poorly constructed line. It's doubly unfortunate because Phoenix delivered everything so well, but what can he do with something like that?

Then they treat him like clown jesus and hamfist the Wayne parents death in there - nah. Sorry, but nah. 9/10 until the last 20 minutes, then just, I don't know, it was bad after that bad.

Lol'd at 'clown jesus'

I read that JP actually made faux sequel posters during the production of Joker

He might be totally down to get crazy again

I believe you have it backwards. Todd has stated that if Joaquin wants to do something he will be all in as well. But Joaquin has a no sequel policy. He's just flirting with the idea of a sequel. Nothing substantial has been said.

Honestly he would be smart to do it. There is no question he would nail it again and this time it wouldn't be an origin story. It would be Joker as an actual criminal mastermind. That's important because now he would absolutely be compared to Heath Ledger's Joker and it would be the ultimate achievement as an actor to dethrone him. Joaquin is an amazing actor that takes meaningful roles, he's not in it for money like alot of the other actors out there. Joker is way too much of an iconic role for him to not break his policy for.

It's at a point where there will be a sequel no matter what. Too much money out there. From what I read JP was thinking a sequel just weeks in saying how theres so much to explore with the character.

Just cant see him or either not doing it with the money that will be thrown at them.

I wonder if they'll recast another batman just for this universe. An actual good actor not some twilight dork.

\Doesn't really make sense to even have a Batman in this story considering they've already established Bruce Wayne is a young kid in this.

They'd have to change the whole ethos of the Batman/Joker story........which is why a sequel shouldn't happen, and certainly not with Batman in it.

$55M budget. Not released in China. R rating. Most of the media against it. This is phenomenal.

It's going to cross a billion dollars too. NOBODY thought it would do anything close to a billion. Even after an opening weekend of 94 million, predictions were of about 750 total. And at the time, even that amount was shocking.

Movie was aight. Nothing special. They could've called this shit Clown.

Has Phoenix ever actually stated he has a no-sequel policy, or is that what everyone just assumes?

Have you ever seen any of the movies Pattinson has done since Twilight? He's built up a phenomenal reputation and is now an incredibly well-respected actor.

I'm guessing here but moreso that Phenoix didn't sign some massive long franchise contract as is normally the case so if he does a sequel its going to be his choosing not some rushed out cash in.

I am almost expecting some kind of shift from WB away from the planned Batman film towards a film with Pattinson and Phenoix, I could see that working very well with Wayne played up as just as damaged as Joker. I actually think Pattinson is far better suited for a film like that than he would be some more standard Batman.

It does seem to me they'd need to bring some other character in for a sequel to dive a bit more dramatic arc, Joker could be shown becoming smarter and more manipulative perhaps I think you'd need someone else to play into that. If it wasn't Batman then Harley Quinn seems the other obvious character to me, if Robbie's film bombs then I could see someone else in that role as an origin. If Joker played on the lone wolf killer then perhaps they could have Harley more as the female cult victim.
