I thought I would never say this but I'm getting tired of Superhero movies most ones I've seen of
late are boring.

Its not too late Wa'keen! Put the contract down and walk toward me...SLOWLY...this doesn't have to go this way.

Having trouble finding an actor that can act crazy enough to pull off the Joker? Fuck it, get one that's legitimately crazy.

I dig it
Crispin Glover should have been the Joker since forever.

The best part of Joker is that he doesn't have a real origin story. Half the fun of the character comes in the mystery of who he is and why he is.

This is a dumb premise.

Not a fan of this idea at all...only interest I have will be to see how this cinematic incarnation of the Joker looks.

I'll keep an eye on this catastrophe waiting to happen

... as being an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

So what happened to Jared Leto? They dont want him anymore.

Of course Jared Leto is also doing Joker. We was pissed a bit, but then found out DC plans to make like 5 different versions of Joker. Because people like(d) the Joker character. Hence....

I don't think DC-WB are in it for the money for their comic book movies. I honestly think they don't want any connection from one DC movie to the other like Disney is doing with Marvel. Even though they did with Superman. I treat the recent Justice League movie as Man of Steel 3 by how they connected it with the first one. Other than that it seems like they produce a film for DC as a stand alone and movie and go on from there. Their comic book movies are just structured different which I don't mind. Marvel Disneys is great and all but too repetitive.
This is kind of like hitting on a girl, being shutdown in embarrassing fashion, and then telling your friends "I didn't want to bang her anyway."

DC just has zero game.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Just reboot the whole DCMU off of this movie. If it's set in the past, embrace it. Build from that.

Joaquin Phoenix Talks About Playing the Joker and How "It Scares the Fucking Shit" Out of Him

joker-phoenix-confirmed.jpg

Joaquin Phoenix: “I take a lot of time and consideration when making decisions and what I’m gonna work on always. So, in some ways, the process, which is obviously reading a script and meeting a filmmaker and then continuing to have meetings and discussions with Todd [Phillips]. I think he’s very impressive and he seems to have a very interesting understanding of this world and what he’s trying to say. And so there is something very appealing about that and working with him on this particular project. It feels unique, it is its own world in some ways, and maybe, mostly, it scares the fucking shit out of me or something. It might as well be the thing that scares you the most.”

“It’s a magnified version of what you deal with as an actor. So, when you get a script, obviously, the writer— usually for me, it’s the writer/director, last several years I’ve worked with a filmmaker that was the writer and director— and they have their expectation, and they’ve imagined things in their head, and they’ve imagined different actors, and suddenly you take it on and so there’s this moment of anxiety of ‘Did I live up to their expectations?’ And at some point you have to just own it and say like, ‘I can’t consider who they might have thought up before or what the movie was for the 6 months ago, this is what it is now and I have to find my way into it.’ And so in some ways it’s a very similar experience, right? But it feels magnified because it’s not just one person’s expectations, but what you’re telling me is that there’s at least a dozen.”

“Three or four years ago, I called my agent and said ‘Why don’t they want to take one of these characters and just make a lower budget film about it, a movie but a character study, and why not take one of the villains?’ And I thought, ‘You can’t do the Joker, because, you know, it’s just you can’t do that character, it’s just been done.’ So I was trying to think of other characters, and he said ‘I’ll set up a general meeting with Warner Bros.’ And I said ‘I’m not gonna go, I can’t go to a general meeting.’ So I completely forgot about it, and so then I heard about this idea, I was like, ‘Oh that’s so exciting, that’s the kind of experience I wanted to have, with a movie based on a comic character.’ I felt like you could get something on screen.”

“I wouldn’t quite classify this as like any genre. I wouldn’t say it’s a superhero movie, or a studio movie or a … It feels unique, and I think more then anything, and probably the most important thing, is Todd seems very passionate about it and very giving, and so that’s exciting. I think, underneath the excitement of these films, and the size of them, there are these incredible characters that are dealing with real life struggles. And sometimes that is uncovered and exposed, and sometimes it isn’t, and so I always felt, like, there were characters in comics that were really interesting and deserve the opportunity to be kind of studied. And so I think that’s what Todd sees appealing about this idea.’

My god DC is all over the place, while this could be good it’s going to be confusing with Letos Joker.

JOKER Origin Movie with Todd Phillips to Direct and Martin Scorsese as Producer

AXEJHIG.jpg

Warner Bros and DC are in the early stages of another Batman Universe spinoff movie, this one telling the origin story of the signature villain The Joker. The studio has set The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips to co-write a script with 8 Mile scribe Scott Silver. Phillips will direct the movie, and Martin Scorsese will produce it with Phillips.

This will be the first film under a new banner that has yet to be named in which WB can expand the canon of DC properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the iconic characters.

Deadline is told that the intention is to make an origin story that isn’t part of any other iteration. The Joker has memorably been part of two Batman movies in the form of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, and was most recently played by Jared Leto in the first Suicide Squad film. He will reprise in the Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn spinoff, but this new film will launch the character with a different actor, possibly younger.

An intriguing part is the setting. The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy. Deadline is told that Phillips and Silver are writing already, but there is nothing firm on where this will fit into the DC schedule.

Phillips most recently directed War Dogs with Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. Silver’s recent script credits include The Fighter as well as Stronger, the David Gordon Green-directed Toronto-bound drama that stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Jeff Bauman, whose lower legs were blown off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon terror attack.

The Joker Origin Story On Deck: Todd Phillips, Scott Silver, Martin Scorsese Aboard WB/DC Film (Exclusive)

I've always been a big fan of the Joker being a former black ops guy who was sent on a mission and his team was ambushed and killed. He was captured and held by the enemy and tortured until he went insane. They sliced his face open (hence the scars) and told him that he was betrayed by his commanders.

And of course the United States disavowed any knowledge of him. Because of the sensitivity of the mission, they deleted all of his records. His identity was wiped from the record which is why they have no idea who he was. Of course he eventually escapes capture and seeks revenge on those who gave up his team. After going all Jason Bourne/Saw on his old command he learns that he wasn't sold out after all, the torturers were just trying to break him. He was just a victim of chaos.

I've always been a fan of a nice variant of this story line.

This will probably be really good and surprise a lot of people. Then the next 3-4 DC films will suck donkey balls.

First time I heard it. Sounds great, and explains a lot of his strengths (fighting proves without having any superpowers, good with fire-arms and explosives, master tactician, etc etc).

Meh.... Can't be any worse than Letos Joker.

They really should just go with an unknown actor but whatever. As long as this Joker doesn't have grills and shitty tattoos it will be an improvement.

Exactly. The Joker himself even says this in one of the comics,

"If I must have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice".
