Media Johny Hendricks *** MEGA Lightweight ***

johny-hendricks-ufc-167-tap.gif

the old phantom tap.
If gsp had the confidence to just lean into that 100% and not worry about positioning, he would have gotten it. Let go right as he was thinking about tapping convincingly

Honestly gave to Hendricks at the time. Thought everything he did was more effective. He gassed out and lost the last 2 rounds, but thought he won 1-3. That said "you have to beat the champ to be the champ", so a close round like round 1 you could swing to GSP because of his dominance. Kind of like how Jones gets decisions, you don't score a close fight against one of the goats.
Watching one of the UFC behind the scenes specials on that fight, had Hendricks hired actual cornerman and NOT cheerleaders he might NOT take his foot off the gas in round 5.. They acted like he was so far ahead after each round when GSP clearly won round 3 with round 1 being close..

To this day I think about that truck. I have lots of questions. What is the mpg? What did he use it for? Does it still run?

Would not be surprised if he had to sell it. The insurance and gas would be more than he can afford doing whatever it is he's doing right now.

Actually, didn't he become a cop or something?

"I don't pay you enough so let me insult you too" <36>

There goes Uncle Fake Tough Guy talking shit like he's some kind of fighter. Yet the only fighting we've seen this bald goofball do was with his wife. I just wish one of these fighters just walked up and smacked the shit out of him

I actually skimmed his IG, no signs of it, but seems to have more practical truck nowadays. I find his rise fascinating. Back then maybe a handful of fighters could retire off their earnings, I don't think he got into that tax bracket. He is a cop appears to be involved with wrestling/coaching, which is great.

Hendricks/GSP is an all time robbery. Johnny got fucked… it was like Shogun/Machida, but Mchida had the balls to actually give Shogun the rematch. GSP quit.
GSP isn't dumb. After he got that home cooking, he took his ball with him and went home. He also waited until Silva wasn't champ and for the weakest MW champ ever in bIspong to come up to MW. Then took his ball home with him again.

Its not like Johnny only did damage in 2 rounds sir.
No, but they werent 10-8 rounds, and he clearly lost 2 rounds with 1 round being a toss up. So the damage he did in those 2 rounds meant nothing more than winning the round

GSP was one of the smartest, gameplay driven fighters of all time. Also didn’t hurt that he was incredibly talented and dedicated, as well. Still lost that fight to Johny in my eyes, though.

Johny fizzled out shortly after this fight. He was amazing at his peak, but that peak was fairly short.
From Test Responder to First Responder.
Only a roided out Stipe could take that title but I don't see Stipe on TRT until his late 40s.

I think there is indeed that blind bias toward the underdog, but also Gus and Hendricks dominated their rounds more clearly thus clearly won if looking at the overall fight instead of round by round. For both these fights, I though the champs were going to lose. After re-watching, I revised my position. BTW that elbow from Jones was probably the most important strike in the history of MMA. Gus had Jones in trouble and was on the way to a total domination until that perfectly placed spinning elbow. Jones wouldn't have that god-like status if that elbow had missed.

I don't think Gustafsson or Hendricks dominated any of the rounds nor do I feel Gustafsson had Jones in trouble in the fight but they were making it a lot harder for the Jones and St Pierre than most others had given them before.

They did enough to make to in some opinion (most importantly the judges) to be able to take rounds where as very few before were able to.

It was the look test which in general actually does tell the story (except for a Diaz brother). On the balance, whoever looks the worse after a fight probably lost the fight. To quote Matt Lindland "Look at his face!" from BJ Penn's corner after St Pierre-Penn 1.
