Media Johny Hendricks *** MEGA Lightweight ***

Last I watched the fight was 2019. I remember Hendricks starting off strong but GSP taking it after. I had it 2-Hendricks/2-GSP and 1 ultra close round to GSP. But it was a great fight I really need to watch it again.

I just rewatched the 1st round for the first time in years.

I have now watched it 4 times. Twice I scored it for GSP, once for Hendricks, once a draw. Anyone crying robbery is ridiculous. It was a razor close round that decided the fight.
Indeed, it was one not very solid arm bar attempt--still grappling offense however ineffective--by GSP that decided the round in his favor in my opinion, though I would have been perfectly satisfied with a draw.

But there is no bloody way Hendricks won so to call it a robbery is refusing to see reality.

Having said that, I haven't really followed MMA for a long time and I find it pretty remarkable this fight is still being discussed no matter the context. Kinda funny to me.

I love GSP but I thought Hendricks got robbed, one of the appropriate times for Dana wanting an auto rematch, but GSP at the time had 1 foot out the door, however, if he was fully motivated, I think he would of beaten Hendricks legit, Rematch GSP was a beast

i thought gsp won at the time, watched it at a party no sound on. I thought it was a close fight but had gsp winning. I thought henrdricks would dominate the division after gsp retired but that never happened

Fight could go either way on the 10 point must system, but Hendricks wins in Pride Rules.

I've watched and re-watched this fight several times. Also, I"m a huge GSP mark and love the dude.
That said, he lost.
But kinda, fuck Hendricks right? Because he was obviously juicing. Everyone knew it.

Hendricks wins in PRIDE

Toss up with the rule set at the time. I watched it again last night after browsing this topic and a GSP decision was easily justified. So was a Hendricks one, though.

But, I have a sour taste in my mouth with the post-USADA evisceration of Hendricks career and physique coupled with that hairline. I'm suspicious of Hendricks' character and glad he lost the fight.

Still not as angry or justifiable as the reviews of his horrible steakhouse

Very close fight but the judges got it right. And no, a fight that close is not a robbery since that term gets thrown around loosely.

I am a GSP fan and even I was pissed GSP won on that night despite my bias. I did watch again after and scoring round by round I could see GSP winning 3-2 if you were to give the champ round 1, which was very close. It is one case where Prime rules would have been more fair since Hendricks rounds were more clear domination than GSP ones.
Must have sucks to be Hendricks on that night.

No you don't. You just have to beat them. I hate to give the Vin Diesel quote, but "It doesn't matter if you win by a inch or a mile, winning's winning"

I read a quote or something which I feel was attributed to a boxing referee or judge. It went something along the lines of "The moment they step into the ring there is no longer a champion or a challenger but rather two neutral combatants".

What I feel happened in this fight and Jones/Gustafsson 1 is that, rather than having the fighters start on a even footing, it was almost like a handicap was given to Hendricks and Gustafsson in their respective fights. I had GSP and Jones winning these fights which were very close. I remember my scoring for the Jones/Gustafsson fight more than the GSP one. For me, some people pick Hendricks or Gustafsson as the winner, instead of picking the winner of the fight based on the fight alone they gave Hendricks and Gustafsson the fight because they did better than they expected them to do. Both fights were very very close and could go either way but I do feel that some tilted it a little bit towards Hendricks and Gustafsson.

FWIW, I believe the rounds I had Jones taking were 1, 4 and 5. 1 and 4 being the swing ones that could go either way. 1 had very little notable actively but I thought Jones controlled it a bit more. 4 was the one that I had Gustafsson cruising along until the last 30s or so when he got hit with that elbow and Jones put it on him. I don't want to say Jones stole the round there but I felt he did so much in those 30s that he overtook Gustafsson's work and control for the other 4mins 30s of the round.

GSP-Hendricks, I think the swing round was 1. If I'm remembering correctly that's the round GSP for takedown(s) but was also beaten up with elbows along the cage digging for the takedown. I had it GSP as even with the striking there, I thought GSP controlled the action before and after. Bear in mind, I've only seen that fight once and was probably drinking at the time too so the memory might be hazy.
I think there is indeed that blind bias toward the underdog, but also Gus and Hendricks dominated their rounds more clearly thus clearly won if looking at the overall fight instead of round by round. For both these fights, I though the champs were going to lose. After re-watching, I revised my position. BTW that elbow from Jones was probably the most important strike in the history of MMA. Gus had Jones in trouble and was on the way to a total domination until that perfectly placed spinning elbow. Jones wouldn't have that god-like status if that elbow had missed.

I think the Gracie Breakdown said it was not a tap. Think a different angle kind of confirmed it.
Gotcha. Almost looked like he was pushing him off, but I can see why people thought it was a tap
