Media Johny Hendricks *** MEGA Lightweight ***

Funniest is when Hendricks did hold the belt and he was doing a fan meet and greet, and he told a fan they could not touch the belt because they didn't earn it. He had a trippy career. Very bipolar. He was knocking dudes comatose on the upswing, then literally crumbled into Bolivian in rapid succession.

He's simply a perfect example that combat sports careers are very fast and short if you don't take care of yourself. This man was blessed with massive natural attributes, very well developed talents and an incredibly fast learner. He also lacked discipline and long term mental toughness. It's tragic because in my view, there was a point in time when he was one of the best fighters to ever compete in MMA Pound for pound.

I only watched this again a few months ago. Going into the fifth while I thought Hendricks was wining he made the most stupid mistake by throwing away the last round.

I think The Hendricks who fought Georges is one of the greatest WW ever in terms of who would win in a fight. I think that version of Hendricks would beat Most WW in UFC history (Probably even Usman). His prime was such short lived.

Hendricks was in a razor close fight and took the 5th round completely off. It was one of the dumbest game plans of all time, unless he was just really that spent.

1 was razor close and he clearly lost 3.

He can cry about it until the end of time.

Lol I remember when those who were saying that Jones lost his fight against Gus, said months later that GSP had clearly beaten Hendricks.

Well said. It's ironic he lost to Gastelum when he started his slide, as Kelvin ended up having similar issues with weight and a lack of dietary discipline. The IV ban officially ruined Hendricks at WW, but even with the IV I'm not sure how much longer he could keep cutting weight from his off-season fat self. Great fighter with a lot of tools at his peak, though.

At 5'9" he wasn't cut out to be a great MW. Hector Lombard was similar. Lombard did great in Bellator at 185, but didn't match up with guys the size of Rockhold, Weidman, Jacare, etc.

Most thought Hendricks won but it was so close…you really have to take it from the champion.

No you don't. You just have to beat them. I hate to give the Vin Diesel quote, but "It doesn't matter if you win by a inch or a mile, winning's winning"

I read a quote or something which I feel was attributed to a boxing referee or judge. It went something along the lines of "The moment they step into the ring there is no longer a champion or a challenger but rather two neutral combatants".

What I feel happened in this fight and Jones/Gustafsson 1 is that, rather than having the fighters start on a even footing, it was almost like a handicap was given to Hendricks and Gustafsson in their respective fights. I had GSP and Jones winning these fights which were very close. I remember my scoring for the Jones/Gustafsson fight more than the GSP one. For me, some people pick Hendricks or Gustafsson as the winner, instead of picking the winner of the fight based on the fight alone they gave Hendricks and Gustafsson the fight because they did better than they expected them to do. Both fights were very very close and could go either way but I do feel that some tilted it a little bit towards Hendricks and Gustafsson.

FWIW, I believe the rounds I had Jones taking were 1, 4 and 5. 1 and 4 being the swing ones that could go either way. 1 had very little notable actively but I thought Jones controlled it a bit more. 4 was the one that I had Gustafsson cruising along until the last 30s or so when he got hit with that elbow and Jones put it on him. I don't want to say Jones stole the round there but I felt he did so much in those 30s that he overtook Gustafsson's work and control for the other 4mins 30s of the round.

GSP-Hendricks, I think the swing round was 1. If I'm remembering correctly that's the round GSP for takedown(s) but was also beaten up with elbows along the cage digging for the takedown. I had it GSP as even with the striking there, I thought GSP controlled the action before and after. Bear in mind, I've only seen that fight once and was probably drinking at the time too so the memory might be hazy.

into Bolivian???

Hendricks won that fight but he shouldn't have coasted in the championship rounds. That's on him. He thought he had it in the bag and took his foot off the gas.

I just rewatched the 1st round for the first time in years.

I have now watched it 4 times. Twice I scored it for GSP, once for Hendricks, once a draw. Anyone crying robbery is ridiculous. It was a razor close round that decided the fight.

sour grapes. not the first fighter to ever go backstage and whine after a loss. doesn't change the fact that it was a close fight.

'i don't know what i could have done different.' finished the fight, that's what. don't let it go to the judges.
The Diaz Brothers in their minds never lost a fight and carped every time they lost. Nate even complained when Josh Thomson beat the piss out of him for two rounds and got violently KO'd via head kick and follow-up GnP. Nate's corner threw in the towel just as the ref jumped-in to mercifully stop the fight.

Nate Diaz quote shortly after the fight -
"He didn't come in there and put no ass whopping on me. You know what I'm saying? He didn't come in there and make anything happen. I have never fought somebody before who had ever wanted out of a fight so bad. I expected a fight. I expected him to grab me and try to hold on to me or throw some kicks and move and throw some punches and move but that motherfucker was straight running and I had to chase his down. I was chasing him the whole fight. I was the aggressor. I was restless, you know? How can you not be when a guy is running scared shitless for his life? I'm over aggressive trying to get a hold of him and that's why I got hit, because I'm over aggressive. I'm trying to meet the criteria to win these rounds."

He also claimed in another interview that Thomson ran the whole time and made noises like a little girl when he got hit. They stopped the fight prematurely. I was winning that fight and then something happened. Yep, something happened alright...

Nate's strategy in that fight was to block kicks and punches with his head and it turned out to be a bad strategy...

One of the biggest robberies in the history of the sport. Made a lot of people question UFC's legitimacy as a sports brand. More like a popularity contest

Watch the 1st round without Rogan's commentary.
Fr Rogan over blew a lot of Hendricks strikes. Also I saw other angles of some of Hendricks Big Knees and a few of his biggest strikes didn't even land. I'll have to look for the clips again and post them here if I can find them.

5-0 for Big Rigg, with two 10-8 rounds.
Whats up Johnny, how you doing?

How is that Steakhouse going btw?
