For real, most of Pure Mathematics imo are giant wanking session, but those giant wanking are not necessarily useless. Because like abstract algebra sometimes you will find some of its properties in quantum physics.
Or like the use of imaginary numbers in Schrodinger's wave equation. Which is mindblowing application/useage of pure maths to me.
What I am saying is that, part of academic fields are just 'playground for adult'. Ted Kaczynski shared this same sentiment.
Like chess. Chess is inherently useless to society unless if it was turned to a sport, or a competition.
I am undermining Bertrand Russel status as a philosopher simply due to his inability to appreciate Hegel.
It's not due to jealousy like how Schopenhauer felt on Hegel's stature in their college in 1800s which is far more respectable.
I'm not insulting higher education, but what I will say is this: many of these experts are not necessarily wiser or useful to the world at large. They may happened to be more eloquent to address or to be nuanced to articulate abstract thoughts - but life is more than that.
Some of our approach to life and universe will not be useful or wise - but you can't see this if you spend your life concentrating in one or two fields which are kinda similar.
