Jiri Prochazka vs Glover Teixeira re-match

The way Jan lost the belt was very different from the way Glover lost it.

Glover was winning the fight through 4 rounds. Then he dropped Jiri with a punch in Round 5.

Jan was dominated by Glover to point of being broken in less than 2 rounds.

So, by your reasoning, if the rematch is close and Glover wins, Jiri should get an immediate rematch - correct?

1st match was one of the best fights of all time, so we're lucky to get to see it ran back.
There really isn't a clear contender between everyone else except Ankalaev and if it's a choice between getting an exciting match with Jiri as champ or a potentially boring one with Ankalaev, fuck it lets atleast get something exciting with Jiri as champ.

Jan has 1 win by knee injury against Rakic and he wasn't even looking the best in that fight, also supposedly has had a really bad injury that could mean fighting infrequently in the future. He should fight Hill and lets see how that goes. If they don't want to throw in Ankalaev instead.

The first fight was excellent and the ufc thinks people will pay to see the rematch, it has nothing to do with deserve, justified, fair ect

Some things I always like addressing.

"The first fight was great."
Cool, then rewatch it. Book something else. For real though, we've rebooted exciting fights a LOT of times and they don't come back exciting. Stop trying to recapture things that have already been captured. A rematch has a much chance to be exciting as any other match because it is just another match.
"The fight was close."
It had a definitive finish. Close don't matter.
"Glover was winning/would have won"
Again, he got finished, and he only would have won if you assume the round Jiri didn't get the finish in also wouldn't have won the round. That's a lot of assumption to make. Otherwise, Glover didn't and wouldn't have won.
"If it went to the cards then.."
So you're erasing the finish? If you mulligan this, that's basically what you're doing. How many thousands of fights don't get run back? Stop making the qualifications for some fights and their results/consequences wildly different from most other fights. The guy won a title, now you're trying to make it not so. You don't have to beat anyone twice to move up the rankings, you shouldn't have to beat someone twice to become champ. This isn't the WWE during its worst era or far-corrupted boxing

Cause Anderson hated the guy and did not want the rematch. Sonnen clearly deserved also.
Anderson found a way to win. He did not find a way to get a rematch. No way sonnen deserves an immediate rematch, and him going through stann and the English h~bomb recipient to get it was the way it should be

Think this thread is senseless. Glover earned his rematch, It was a great fight and he was beating Jiri till the last 30 seconds of the fight. If someone deserves a rematch, It is Glover.
If there's any post that is the most horseshit, it's this one. Feed me "it'll sell." Feed me "weak division." Feed me "Jiri asked for it." "Glover earned it" is competely nonsensical by any stretch of the imagination

I like when instant rematches get scheduled quickly to not waste too much time
I read some other thread with someone saying maybe this can happen on the Brazil card late January 2023. I almost had an aneurysm

I had a preference for Jiri vs Jan in Poland personally. That would have been huge and I think it was a marketing mistake to pass up on it.

That being said, I'm not sweating it. Jiri/Glover was an instant classic so I'm definitely not going to miss the rematch.

Biggest controversy now is how to sort out the contenders. Maybe Jan sits out to wait for next title shot while they do Jamahal vs Ankalaev for the next title shot after him?
It’s very simple..The Glover rematch sells cause it was a great fight, and Jiri is likely to win again perhaps in a more dominating way. They want the belt to stay on Jiri because he’s marketable, and they also want Adesanya to go up again and fight him for a 2nd belt if he gets past Pereira.

Jiri is a more beatable opponent for Adesanya than Jan or Ankalaev. Everyone will want to see that fight, it will be one of if not the biggest fight of 2023, so they’re putting the pieces in place now to let that happen, it starts with Jiri KOing and retiring Glover.
Is the Izzy talk based on anything tangible? I haven't been paying attention so maybe there has been talk, but to my knowledge I don't think Izzy has even mentioned LHW since the last time he did that. Or am I wrong?

Sherdog is a bit split for this fight, some want it because the first fight was so entertaining so they hope for another FOTY candidate, but this is where they are wrong, most likely is not going the same route and if Glover wins we will have a division with a 40-something champion that was talking retirement even before the first fight and potentially a trilogy in a row, nothing wrong with a trilogy with fights in between...for me i think its the wrong fight to make, the right guy won and it was a great fight, dont ruin it.

I'd have preferred the Jan fight, but I'm not complaining about this either. First one was epic and Glover was winning the majority of the fight. I also like the motivation Jiri is giving that he wasn't satisfied with his performance and wants to show he can do much better. Hopefully he wil.

I guess I missed the news that this is happening? I thought it was only rumors at this point, but Sherdog has it listed...they usually don't post fights without credible sources...

LHW is pretty thin at the top, so I'm not too surprised by this rematch. Several of the top 10 fighters have lost recently, derailing their momentum. Ankalaev probably has the best argument over this immediate rematch, but UFC matchmaking isn't always on merit.

No complaints on my behalf the divisions always move slowly and champions usually guaranteed only fight once or twice a year, unless the company loves them enough they don't even have to fight for a year and can sit on their ass longer than a year.

why would you be this strongly opposed to this particular fight? seems odd. open a window, take a deep breath. it's gonna be ok

Actually I want to see if Jiri got lucky or he can do it again
