I'm not, I just wondered what you meant and you clarified.

I was confused because obviously official action was taken (by the network).
Due to the sponsors pulling out alongside Carrs comment it’s difficult to understand if the sponsors were acting on their own or by applied FCC pressure. I believe it was the implied threat from the FCC.

Once again, this is far from the worst thing Kimmel has said. This just shows how dangerous Trumps administration is.

Agreed, Trump's administration is extremely dangerous and sadly led by someone many find charismatic.

Cruz said it best, and since they're self-diagnosing their own issues at this point, if they don't like the term fascist or Nazi, let's just call them what they are: a mafia.

Definitely something that Cruz appropriately pointed out can be used against conservatives in the future. I don’t like it at all.

Not sponsors. Affiliate stations who have a vested/financial interest in sucking up to the FCC chair and doing precisely what he commands them to do, regardless of who delivers the message.

Again, Carr was wrong for saying anything. It was dangerous and stupid to do so. Idk why people are getting worked up by my distinguishing between a vague threat on a podcast and an official action taken by a government entity.
Because you are misrepresenting what Kimmel said, and downplaying the effect of Carr's comments on companies with a financial interest in currying his favour.

I’m downplaying it? By saying that the FCC officially took no action and Carr was wrongly leveraging his bully pulpit in a disgusting way?

I have seen people say shitty things in the wake of Charlie Kirk's shooting, but shit-canning a late-night comedian for telling the truth is weak and pathetic.

I posted the quote and it certainly wasn’t that.
A vague threat would be ""The FCC should hold broadcasters accountable if they don’t serve the public interest"

Carr said.

We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can change conduct and take action on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

He also explicitly mentioned Disney, ABC , Jimmy Kimmel. This was an explicit threat which is why the affiliates took action immediately after his words, not before.

It wasn't alongside, it was AFTER Carr's comments.

By qualifying it with "officially". They very clearly "took action".

Yes you are downplaying it by continuing to suggest it wasn’t “official” action. The fcc chair made an explicit threat to a company who took action. On behalf of this administration.

Once again, what action did they take? I’ll give you another chance since you essentially had a self own by posting a quote from a conservative non-profit as your proof.

What was the official explicit threat on behalf of the administration? “Additional work ahead for the FCC”?

You realize I’m against what Carr said, right?

This is why the left is intolerable.

I’m literally against what happened but you’re acting like I’m in support of it. I’ve repeatedly stated that what was said was repugnant, but ifs not enough.

  • “We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”
  • “It’s long past the time that a lot of these licensed broadcasters themselves push back on Comcast and Disney and say, ‘Listen, we are going to preempt. We are not going to run Kimmel anymore … because we, licensed broadcasters, are running the possibility of fines or license revocation from the FCC if we continue to run content that ends up being a pattern of news distortion.’”
  • “This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney

If he specifically threatened the ABC and affiliates to take action against Kimmel while referencing his FCC authority and statute, what is vague about that?

Would you also say it was a vague threat if the FCC chair said we’re going after the Rob Battisti show. If Rob Battisti doesn’t change his conduct, there will be consequences when it comes time for license renewals’?

"The ABC late-night host’s remarks constituted “the sickest conduct possible,” FCC chair Brendan Carr told right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson on Wednesday. Carr suggested his FCC could move to revoke ABC affiliate licenses as a way to force Disney to punish Kimmel.*

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said. “These companies* can find ways to change conduct and take actions on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

And speaking on Fox Wednesday night, Carr suggested broadcasters would see more of this kind of pressure in the future.""

*as I already pointed out, "these companies" are currently trying to acquire more TV stations than they're legally allowed to when current FCC regulations have placed a cap on how many they may own, and they need the FCC to raise the cap to complete the acquisition.

Read this post and the links in it and then tell me again how you don't get what I'm on about.

"Nexstar, which operates about two dozen ABC affiliates, issued a press release saying it “strongly objects” to Kimmel’s remarks and saying its stations would “replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

Notably, Nexstar is seeking Trump administration approval to acquire another big US station group, Tegna. The deal requires the FCC to loosen the government’s limits on broadcast station ownership.

Minutes after Nexstar criticized Kimmel publicly, ABC said the show was being yanked nationwide.

Later in the evening, another big station group, Sinclair, said it had also told ABC that it was preempting Kimmel’s show on its ABC-affiliated stations before the network announced its nationwide decision.

Sinclair, too, has business pending before the Trump administration, and it made a bid for Tegna a day before Nexstar stepped in with its bid. The company announced Wednesday night that it will air a one-hour special tribute to Kirk on Friday night in Kimmel’s usual time slot."

Cool — glad we confirmed there were no official actions taken.

I’m not “the left”.

There was a threat. By an appointee of the president. One we know is endorsed by the admin. You can keep playing dumb.

Why do you keep caveating? The fcc didn’t explicitly sanction but they got the result they wanted / expected from their threat.
