It was a lie. The shooter leaving references to transgenders etched into his bullets was reported by the Wall Street Journal. It didn't just spout out of some Facebook group or something. The only ones who were fighting like hell against all available evidence as it began rolling out was the left. They wanted so bad for him to be a right winger, that they fell for a false report from David Shuster online that said the assassin that killed Kirk was a conservative who didn't think Kirk was MAGA enough, despite no corroborating sources. They absolutely went with this on social media while still celebrating Kirk's murder. They pushed that lie here too. Despite having confirmations about the assassin's motives and political leanings, we are still seeing people trying to push the lie that it wasn't a leftist. Kimmel knew what he was doing by intentionally lying about the assassin's motive with the intent of fanning the flames of division in the country. He was actually the one trying to score political points with that lie.For those who haven’t seen it, here’s what Kimmel actually said during his monologue:
Nowhere in that monologue does Kimmel say anything disparaging about Kirk, nor does he lie. Some have claimed that the “anything other than one of them” part is false, but that’s not true. Right after the shooting, on social media and even here, people were immediately speculating that the shooter was transgender, despite there being no suspect in custody at the time. Kimmel’s statement was a factual observation about attempts to mischaracterize the shooter, not a lie.
