Do you think 'The Jimmy Kimmel' show should have been cancelled?

I've watched a lot of comedians get shit on lately. We could never have an Eddie Murphy or Richard Prior today. That is a real tragedy.

But talk show hosts cross over from comedy to social commentary. The classy hosts like Johnny Carson would stay far away from Charlie's death. The truth about first amendment free speech remains - say it, but you're deal with the consequences of pissing people off.

I wish he hadn't have said it. I wish he wouldn't have been fired for it. I wish he was more respectful. I wish thin skinned bitches would toughen up. I wish Charlie wasn't killed.

So I answered, It's complicated.

If I had a conversation with Jimmy I would say, "Bro, you can say whatever you want but you don't have to be shitty about it. Your job is to read the room, you fucked that one up."

He didn’t lie
No, the implication was clear as day. He was lying about the shooter an trying to spread false information that he was MAGA. This is where you go "He didn't technically say that!"
That’s not canceling or cancel culture. No one ever said it’s wrong to fire someone for breaking the law.
It's not wrong to fire someone for not breaking the law, either. Showing up late ain't against the law. Calling your boss an asshole isn't against the law. People get fired for it every single day, though.

I'm not misrepresenting you. You're opinion on the Israel/Palestine conflict did a hard 180, right around January 20th-ish for some mysterious reason...

I also haven't ignored anything you've said here, so why lie? I know it's hard for a leftist to grasp, but not agreeing with you =/= ignoring you.
Dumbass, go to that thread and bring it up then. You won’t because it’s an argument you can’t win. My opinion on Israel/Gaza in 2023 is different now because in 2023 Israel wasn’t bombing Iran and Qatar. At the time Israel hadn’t committed and covered up a bunch of war crimes. My opinion changed because of Israel, not because of Trump. I know it’s hard for you to think of anything outside of this narrow Trump and anti Trump sphere, but unfortunately for you the world’s a lot more complicated than that. Sorry not everything is tied to Trump.

Kimmel didn’t break the law and Tucker did. There’s no argument there. Tucker lost that battle in court.

Calling your boss an asshole has never been what cancel culture is. I have no idea why you think that is relevant

What leads to believe they were bluffing?
That's what they have to find out, if they find worthy enough to defend. Looks like old Jimbo wasn't worth a fuck.
Their options were fold, or lose billions. Not really a choice at that point,
Sure it is. Nothing is guaranteed. What if they challenge the ruling and win?
He was fired.
Actually, he's not even fired. He got put on leave indefinitely.
So if demonstrates both a double standard and a personal vendetta against one man for what he said.
So?
Correct. And what Kimmel said wasn’t in violation of any free speech laws or title 47 rule on the books.
And the FCC took no official action against ABC, so again, that point is moot.
The administration didn’t like it, so they threatened him. Take a step back from left and right, democrat and republican and look at this for what it is- massive governmental over reach and the censorship of protected speech because they didn’t like it.
ABC didn't care to fight for Kimmel. The Government complains all the time about shit like this. They don't always win. ABC apparently didn't even think it was worth fighting for, so they got rid of the problem.

If there is a lesson to be learned, never talk shit about a thin-skinned dude with power. Also when someone you work for, needs that same thin-skinned dude to waive a rule so your company can buy more TV stations, dont talk shit about the thin-skinned dude.

This will only embolden Mini Strokes. He is already telling reporters who ask him questions like should Trump be profiting off his Presidency, then Trump says the reporter asking the question should be fired. I guess the only question you should ask Trump is should he have 100 or 200 Noble prizes by now. They should thank Trump for sacrificing his PGA golf career to save America.
Trump is so SAWFT because now Mini Strokes gets mad when legitimate questions asked, and the crazy part is Trump has trained his dumb base to yell TDS at any reporter that asks legit questions.
If reporters were smart, they should wear wool hats at the Press Conferences and old man Trump will think they are Tim Pool and Trump will try and get Tim Pool fired for asking tough questions.

This is the reason he got cancelled for. Trump looks so disinterested about the question of how's he doing after being asked about his friend Charlie Kirk death. There is not one reference of Kimmel saying anything malicious about Charlie Kirk.

So this is nothing burger, well it should have been.

It wasn’t worth losing billions of dollars with a suspended license while they went through the whole process.
Sure it is. Nothing is guaranteed. What if they challenge the ruling and win?
I suspect they would, but only after the hearing and then a court challenge. Even that wouldn’t be any guarantee but I would like to think the Supreme Court would stand firm on free speech.
Actually, he's not even fired. He got put on leave indefinitely.
What’s the difference?
That is authoritarian over reach by the government. That’s bad.
And the FCC took no official action against ABC, so again, that point is moot.
“The cop threatened to break your kneecaps if you didn’t shut the fuck up, but he never actually whacked you with his billy club so it is a moot point”
ABC didn't care to fight for Kimmel.
They didn’t wanna lose billions of dollars while their license was suspended and they fought.
The Government complains all the time about shit like this.
That’s ok. No problem with them complaining.
They don't always win. ABC apparently didn't even think it was worth fighting for, so they got rid of the problem.
The money lost in the battle would cripple them.

If Carr was willing to say that out loud imagine the kind of pressure behind the scenes he could have applied to Nexstar.

They didn't force anything that I'm aware of. There wasn't even a complaint filed.
The idea that the FCC, which literally regulates this very thing, has statutory authority over it, and was in Carr's direct jurisdiction, who didn't actually invoke any government powers, not even an email or a phone call from their government accounts, was somehow an abuse of power by the government is beyond absurd.

Jimmy Kimmel has free speech rights? Yeah, so does Carr. Especially while simply appearing on somebody else's podcast. He has to actually DO something from his position as FCC for there to be a complaint here.

And this isn't even getting into the fact Benny Johnson already said hours ago HE was the one who began calling up local broadcasting affiliates asking if they found Kimmel's behaviour acceptable and HE got them to begin cancelling their contracts over it. Carr didn't call up anybody so far as anybody knows. This was a private citizen.

People just want there to be a "there" there.

Whole lot of assumptions going on there.

What we know:

FCC guy made some vague threats on a podcast. ABC didn't feel Jimmy Kimmel was worth a battle. The biggest factor in this, were the private broadcasting companies who did take action, and said they wouldn't carry the show anymore.

Also, if you have no problem with the government complaining, then what's your problem here? No official action was taken. They were literally just complaining.

Kimmel didn’t open them up to lawsuits. He didn’t knowingly spread a lie. You understand that that’s what Tucker did, right? It’s not close to the same situation. Stop being an idiot
Kimmel said on Monday the shooter was a MAGA guy even after all the evidence was released over the weekend that he was a leftist. And, you know, the fact he shot Charlie Kirk and not a leftist.

It's a pretty blatant fucking lie dude.

Did that hurt your feelings? You sound upset.

There's no question he intentionally lied to fan the flames of division in the country. There is also absolutely no question, at this point, about the assassin's motives yet Kimmel's ego and lack of morals got the better of him.

All he said was MAGA was eager to point fingers after the shooting, you guys have been wildly and dishonestly misinterpreting what he said to mean that he was trying to lie and say the shooter was MAGA.

Look at this twitter post directly after the shooting.

If anybody wants further proof that this wasn`t some accident, all you have to do is go look at his official Youtube video of the monologue and the description posted under it:

Trump took to Truth Social to give his thoughts on NFL games, his Treasury Secretary announced that they have a framework of a deal to sell TikTok, we hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize the kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, Trump continues to talk about the construction of his $200 million dollar ballroom, on Friday he stopped by the always-friendly morning gang at Fox and Friends, Klan Mom Marjorie Taylor Greene is not interested in listening to people she disagrees with, the Emmys were last night and our friends Stephen Colbert & John Oliver won some awards, and Guillermo does tequila shots with the stars!

This is description is STILL up TODAY calling the shooter MAGA. You can`t change what Kimmel says in the video, but you absolutely can change how you describe it to get away from this obvious lie and show SOME remorse at it.

Instead they double down on it, leaving it up for people. It`s on purpose.

There is no question he was not lying and was not trying to fan the flames.

You're the one who is lying because you like the lie and hate the person.
