There are always trends but at the moment people are drinking the least they have in about 100 years. People are more health conscious now and Gen Z doesn’t drink like millennials or Gen X. Beam was actually bought out by suntory about a decade ago. Suntory also owns Basil Hayden, makers mark, knob creek, Canadian club, Laphroaig and a bunch of other brands. They know how to keep up with trends. Their plan to take a year off production to renovate the distillery sounds pretty solid tbh.

I won a chance to buy a bottle of Pappy 10 years ago for $150. I bought it and had dudes in my friend group offer a grand for it. Bottle is empty now but still sits in my bourbon cabinet.
I got a couple team themed Makers and been on the hunt for a Kentucky Derby Makers bottle but my bourbon trader group wants to much for it. Got a buddy who is a liquor rep who can score me some limited edition bottles but even he can’t get the Derby Makers bottle.
Well shit that is what I get from going off memory, they don’t make Pappy. Knew it was not right when I was typing it.

It's not just the people working in the distilleries that could be put at risk, either.

Once again, US farmers will get hammered by the drop in demand. No production = no orders to that distillery.

A lot of people end up depending on big businesses, in this case anything from the transport industry to coopers.

It's an entirely self-inflicted wound, and Kentucky as a whole will feel it.

Honestly, I think this made my current wife consider to keep dating me. See, we had a mutual couple as friends that were dating. For spring break, they each got to bring a friend for a 16 hour drive to Florida. My buddy took me, his wife took my wife-but it was originally supposed to be this girl , Jen, that had been trying to fuck me forever. I always refused-I seriously never slept around at all-always had a gf and standards. But had I slept with her-my wife would not have considered dating me because she was in fact, a slut. The distillery creates different bourbons, not just the cheap white label stuff. For example, Knob Creek, Bookers, Little Book, Bakers, Old Tub, Old Grand Dad.

I tend not to drink any of it, far more into scotch. But I know they put out products that are well reviewed by bourbon geeks

It’s weird. In college, I drank only Bacardi limon and sprite. Hated beer, even had vodka at the time. Went to Ireland and didn’t yet drink beer-found one I liked, but it wasn’t available in the states-at least, near me. Started drinking beer after that. The hen I went to Italy and hated wine, until I got smashed at a wine tasting in Florence and started only drinking red wine. Now, I drink vodka and dogfish head sea quench ale after years of drinking yuengling and then blue moon. But I never hit that scotch phase. My brothers and I would buy my dad a $200+ bottle for Christmas every year-glen morangie, Johnny walker blue label or something. But I have always hated it.

Whisky can't be drunk in any way other than very slow, very light sips.

Any other method makes it undrinkable.

For multiple reasons goatnald is partially to blame here. But as someone who’s worked in the alcohol industry for almost ten years now the industries been struggling quite a bit since Covid. Tons of companies have been shut down or bought out in recent years.

THC/Hemp infused drinks are currently the future but the government is pushing back on it until their pockets get lined enough.


All that said beam is owned by Suntory which is a global powerhouse that owns a ton of big brands. They’ll be fine.

One of bottle that is overlooked is Legent bourbon.

Yeah, Pappy is from the Weller family (I think Buffalo Trace is the distiller). But damn, that is nice. I’ve had Pappy 20 and 23yr, one in Vegas and one in NY, and it was from $100 to more than $150 a shot.
My buddy has a full bottle of 23yr in his collection because he was picked in a lottery, not sure what he paid, but it was definitely a lot more than $150.
