JDS fell off hard, feels bad man

He was never good enough, he was an overrated bum who fought one dimensional fighters, MMA has evolved now and there is no place for him in the octagon anymore.. Sounds familiar?

That of course is the standard Sherdog line about just about every fighter that gets old and loses because they continue to fight after their prime (Anderson, Arlovski, Barao, Fedor, Aldo, Hughes, Big Nog, Crocop, Liddell, Cain, Penn ... well you get the idea). They even apply it to guys who had a bad injury they never recovered from (GSP's knee for instance).

Basically, if you're old and Sherdog isn't calling you an overrated bum who only fought cans, it means you weren't successful.

I think he paid so much for not changing his style or adding to his game over the years unlike what alistair did,as soon as alistair figured his chin was weak,he worked so hard to change his style also he has grappling too unlike Junior

Alistair always had a mediocre chin, but worked on his stamina and pacing.

Dos Santos is different.

Good point. Overeem has adapted well and changed his style to become more grapple heavy with a much worse chin.

They’re two different fighters with different genetics.

Dos Santos is a natural heavyweight, who doesn’t have the agility or athleticism of Overeem. Juniors success depended on a combination of talent, strength and durability. He’s already made adjustments to minimize damage but it just isn’t enough. A big, heavy, strong tough guy isn’t going to suddenly dance around the ring like a defensive wizard just because someone else was able to.

Four straight losses
All in embarrassing fashion

Never really was a fan, but he's a genuine dude who works hard

Somewhere along the line he became timid in his approach

The man that KOed cain and werdum was the aggressor

JDS now is thinking way too much

It's very hard to judge a fast and powerful puncher. When they find the right strike they look ubeatable but when they don't they look average at best.

I would say JDS actually depended more on his athletcism than Overeem, for a man his size he was pretty quick, espeically his hands and did obviously have a great chin. Part of why Overeem has lasted IMHO is that he's never really depended much on aggressive boxing were speed/chin would be a big positive. Whats changed is that he's switched from looking for the clinch more to picking away at range more.

I've always been a fan of JDS. No controversy, seems like genuinely kind and good person. Always gracious in defeat and his initial run upon entering the UFC was a thing of beauty. Not much to dislike about the guy.

That said, I sadly agree with you. He's just fallen off so hard it's tough to watch. The guy is a class act. I hope he retires before taking too much more head trauma.

JDS gets walked down every fight a hole he just can't seem to fix.

JDS has never really been the same since the second fight with Cain. He can still hang around and beat lesser fighters but not the top tier.
And someone was just telling me in a thread about Oliveira and Tony that there's no way a single fight like Tony vs Gaethje could age a fighter well beyond his years.

He had no answer for the kicks and was too scared to get in boxing range. I say release him or give him an easy retirement fight. Let him beat up Jake Collier, that's a guaranteed win

It all went downhill when he decided to leave his original team in Bahia, karma I guess,

seems like the fighters who prosper are the ones who generally pick a team from the beginning and stick with them, also those beatings from Cain probably didn't help either.

He used to have an intensity that seems to be forever gone. He had power and the focused intent to land that power. Now he's just sparring. I don't want to fighter bash but it's possible he may have been on something before that he is not able to take currently. That or he just lost the will. When he first came on the scene, he was just thicker and more fired up than he has been for a long time. His timing was also better but that could be a confidence thing.

Junior has grappling but somehow refuses to use it.

I do suspect ....that things may have started changing for Dos Santos around about..........July 2015.
Just a guess. Must be a change in his training or something..

His head got a lot smaller

JDS was extremely fun to watch back in his prime. His durability isn't there anymore. It's time for him to either retire or take a big step down in competition. He still wants the title, but he needs to understand where he is at in his career and accept holding the title again isn't a realistic goal anymore.
