Yeah. He actually was. Jones was close to being stopped by cut, apparently, but in the actual war, Gus was closest to being tko'ed and the fight stopped, the five rounds stopped, when Jones was getting the better of Gus, as evidenced by Jones winning the fifth (and fourth) round.

Jones won the battle. On the scorecards he won too.
