Jason Herzog making UFC history, letting a fighter get dropped like 8 times, no stoppage. Yet stops Lewis/Tallison as Tal got to his feet.

He's showing early signs of Ref CTE aka Herbdeanitis, sad to see it set in on one of the previously best refs in the game
<Oku01>

So tragic. Now that he's been officially diagnosed we can only monitor the regression. Soon, a man will lay as still as a corpse in the octagon, his opponent will lord above him, knowing the man is finished. Then herzog will slice through the silence and weight of the moment by shouting LETS WORK GENTLEMEN!

I remember the CB Dolloway fight was the literal first MMA fight I randomly had my old dad watch, and he was like "This sport is. . . . .incredibly brutal". lol
I'll never forget that one, cb lying on the ground unable to move while Herb Dean is yelling "get up" then Herb legit grabs his arm and tries to pull him up, until cb has to verbally say "I can't even see!"

Who was the ref for that fight?

I don’t know why I immediately jumped to Mark Smith, but I think I’m wrong now lol.

I say this with full respects and mild confusion, but truly, I do not understand the MMA purists. Jason Herzog, a man of Discipline and great repute, once halted Black Beast’s vicious mauling of Tallison, and for this, you bigly mocked him. Loudly and repeatedly. “Wow so early, must be fa🐐”, shameful disrespect of this kind

In the Global Phenomenon of #PowerSlap , fights stop at the first blink of brain trauma, treating stumbles as sacred warnings from the #JustBangGod . Meanwhile, the catchers stand proud to intercept Warriors before gravity delivers the finishing blow.

Herzog, our second most Senior Referee just under the Ever-Vigilant Mark Smith, simply carried this system of ethics into MMA for the Black Beast fight, hoping to promote career longevity for all. Big mistake!

But when criticized, he did not whine but improved through tireless study. So today, he proudly gave to the world carnage with a bow on it. Shirley, the fans should respect this noble and generous act, correct?

Incorrect; you still whimper. And in asking for clarity over caution, you offer none yourselfs.

As fate would have it though, the clever acts of Herzog have now given us a scale from which to work. Almost as if this it was by design. In honor of the JBG, I think it is time now that we reflect and ask ourselves what we truly want.

From #PowerSlapHerzog to #AbuDhabiHerzog, which do you prefer? 1-10. Mod please add poll. I look forward to the results.

To be fair Yahya stood up every time, not once crawling up the cage.

Yeah but did you see him wobbling all over to get back to his corner at the end of the first round? He was very hurt. Herzog warned him right then and there to protect himself. But then the second round starts and Yahya gets dropped another 3 times, and Herzog lets it go again.

Don't get me wrong, I love a just bleed fight, but this was the most knockdowns in UFC history in this fight. I can't believe how inconsistent of a ref he is, to stop Lewis/Tal on the first knockdown, while Tal got to his feet. Herzog even admitted in an interview after that he hadn't seen the cage grabs from Tal and should have let it continue.

Hear me out… there wasn’t a good “stopping point”. He seemed to recover quickly and also the later knockdowns were less impressive than the earlier knockdowns so it would’ve felt like a bad stoppage no matter where he stopped it.

Refs have to make quick decisions, in the cage with no hindsight. Can understand an oops moment for a ref. If an earlier error called it too late might swing to a quick call. Likewise opposite to early then error on to late. The coincidence that Lewis was favored plus got a POTUS call is bad optics. Herzog would not know about a congratulations call since arranged afterwards but dampens what was likely to be a good win for Lewis. Oh well maybe they can enhance ref n. To help with these calls. A lot of pressure on Ref with limited visibility. Some corners throw in towels a green or red light could also be used if observers see fighter still with it. That was sort of a yellow situation that did not go to red but was turning to green.

@Ares Black what did you think of this stoppage? I know you hated the Lewis stoppage the other week.
Watching it now. It's pretty ridiculous. Yahya is terrible and has no business being in the UFC.

Fight could have been stopped after the 3rd knockdown, should have been stopped after the fifth (near the end of the first round).

Tallison deserved the stoppage because he was hauling himself up grabbing the fence with both hands like a zombie in a horror movie

No way he would've made it back to his feet without that

It's funny Herzog made a statement after saying he 'never saw Tallison grab the cage to get back to his feet, and he wished he let it go longer'.

He didn't want to make the same mistake twice? A simple case of overcorrection?

Perhaps overcorrection--in fact, probably overcorrection--but pretty far from a simple run-of-the-mill case. This is at least a 5-to-95 swing on a 100 point scale, from one tail of the bell curve to the other.
Didn't see it, just guessing
