Media Jan says he’s going to stand with Alex

Maybe you should rewatch the fight. I rewatched it a month ago and it was clear as day. Strickland was winning, he just got caught. Stop trying to rewrite history.

Then you clearly have no idea WTH you're looking at.

Go look at the punch stats of the fight: http://ufcstats.com/fight-details/0308bcdd00cc72e2

Shawn Strickland = 15 of 29 (51%)
Alex Pereira = 25 of 40 (62%)

All Strickland threw were jabs, while Pereira was mixing up a body-leg attack, lulling the idiot Strickland to sleep, and then left-hooked him into oblivion.

Please never speak to me about "your opinion" again.

You're not qualified to give opinions, if you believe Strickland was "beating" Pereira.

No way will he stand with Alex. He is going to try to take the fight down as quickly as possible. He has no chance standing up against Alex. He is trying to throw Alex off.

correct answer...try standing and if that fails, try something else, which is basically why its called mixed martial arts...as long as he can stay awake to make that choice...sometimes you get KTFO having missed the chance....then you're left saying, "why didnt I take him down sooner"?

He's going to fight conservative on the feet and wait for a good opportunity to shoot. Has the potential to be a boring fight is Pereira can't successfully force stand up exchanges without getting taken down.

Pre-fight statements have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Jan should spam TD's right from teh bell. Of course P will divert many of them, but a significant threat of TD will downgrade P's striking stance & game, & so that's the key.

For sure strike with him... but then throw a TD so it downgrades P's game before you then go for the kill.

Jan isn't exactly the most mentally strong guy on the roster and this is just more proof of it. If he doesn't mix in grappling he deserves to lose.

I mean, straight up telling him you plan to bring your wrestling shoes and singlet would be pretty dumb. Sure, let him think you plan on striking with him.

LOL, have you actually seen Jan strike?? There is a very good chance that Jan knocks Perreira out. Perreira is not this mythical god of striking that he's made to be. He's got holes in his game like everyone.

His relative size and the (maybe) better ability to take a shot based on that might buy him some time but if he stands with Alex 100% hes going to sleep at some point. If he wrestles he should be the clear favourite.

He will takedown Alex. There is no way he can last standing up, once he receives a right cross, thats when he'd realize wrestling Alex is more advantageous or him.

Jan was outstriking Izzy before he ever decided to grapple with him in the final 2 rounds of their fight. Izzy is the more technical striker when compared to Alex, and so it isn't hard to imagine Jan also outstriking Alex. The difference, however, is that Alex hits way harder than Izzy does. One mistake and Jan will be unconscious, so it's riskier than his fight with Izzy.
Good point .

The commentary was HORRIFICALLY biased during Jan vs Izzy but I think even fans tend to forget how well Jan out struck Izzy in that fight, and it wasn't just the threat of the takedown either . If I recall correctly from basically start to finish before Jan ever even shot for a takedown he was outclassing Izzy on the feet.

No matter the fighter, they all have to fight standing up at least in the beginning of the round. Unless you're Jon Jones.
