Jan was outstriking Izzy before he ever decided to grapple with him in the final 2 rounds of their fight. Izzy is the more technical striker when compared to Alex, and so it isn't hard to imagine Jan also outstriking Alex. The difference, however, is that Alex hits way harder than Izzy does. One mistake and Jan will be unconscious, so it's riskier than his fight with Izzy.

People underestimate Jan's striking. Pereira is just a really bad match up for Izzy because Izzy doesn't have the power to threaten him in most situations so Alex can just walk him down. The favourable matchup against Izzy fools people into thinking he is better than he is. Don't be surprised if Jan outstrikes him or knocks him out. Strickland was outstriking him before he was caught.

For sure, Jan doesn’t typically get the respect he deserves. He easily at least won the first 2 rounds against Izzy on the feet, although some may have missed it due to how much bias the commentary had. Landed a solid combo and then Izzy throws a feint “WHAT A DEVASTATING FEINT FROM IZZY!!!” (Hyperbole, but you get the drift)


So yeah, I would be not be shocked if Jan decided to test the waters on the feet. Some thought he would be stuck in the mud against the assumably much faster Adesanya, but like we said he looked fine and even won. Could be fireworks against Alex.

Jan has literally made an entire career of countering faster strikers with his awkard timing.
