You know, I think I'll repost part of something I put up yesterday. The context is concerning the things which have followed from January 6th, and the creation of the political environment which allowed January 6th to happen. The TLDR is that I watched the Democrats and media create an environment of distrust in elections for five years prior to January 6th happening - repeatedly, intentionally, and at multiple levels of discourse. As such I find the pearl clutching that follows from people really distrusting elections to be blatant partisan hackishness that I'm largely toning out most of the outrage circus - and it is a circus - because I have trouble interpreting it as anything but self serving political maneuvering. Sorry, you can't foment distrust in elections for five straight years then clutch your pearls and pretend to be outraged when the other side doesn't trust an election, then pull a "how could this happen!?!??!" routine, and have me take you seriously. I think it says a lot about the partisan priors of many here that they just jump right on board with the whole theatre they're putting on in Washington over this.
I'm sorry but, again, as an outsider looking in, I listened to your popular discourse around elections be about how they were stolen for roughly five years prior to January 6th - pretty much right around the time Trump won. Any time someone comes into a discussion presenting any sort of rhetoric about stealing elections as a Trump problem, rather than a bed that the US as a whole, both sides, made over the course of a half a decade and culminated in a skeezy politician taking advantage of that political atmosphere, it sets off my bullshit alarm. I can't accept these histrionics from a party that embraces a woman like Stacey Abrams, who denied her election loss in Georgia because it shows they don't give a shit about election denial until they win. I can't accept these histrionics about attacking the integrity of elections seriously from a media and political establishment that spent years going on about how Russia meddled with the 2016 election because it shows that the side upset about it now is perfectly willing to do it when it suits their purposes. I can't accept these histrionics from a from a media and political establishment that, just months before, was pre-emptively calling the election into questioning the other way because they were using that same playbook then crying foul when it went against them. People were boarding up windows across the country prior to the 2020 election not because of Trump, but because the election had been thrown into question prior to it happening by those aligned against Trump - and it is stomach turning to see people uncritically coming in and sayin "How dare Trump draw the integrity of elections into question!" The side that hates the guy had been doing it for a half a decade - so the false outrage over what happened elides the real problem which was created by both sides over the past half decade. If this were anything close to an honest discussion, rather than one aligned along political lines, people would be coming in saying "Well shit, we both really need to stop calling elections into question" rather than "See? See what the other side did? See? This is one of the worst things in American history and THEY did it." Utterly disingenuous rhetoric you're jumping on board with here.
