There may be a valid comparison between the two in terms of long term effects on the political landscape, considering the similarly comparable damage to democracy due to the Patriot Act, and the attempt by a sitting president and several other members of the government to void the result of a general election with a campaign of lies and deceit.

It looked like a stupid protest. I normally like fire hoses and K-9s for protests, but I also understand the need for freedom of public demonstrations and protests. If the protesters on Jan 6th needed to be put down for getting out of hand they should have been.

I don't really care about the people that broke into the capitol. They were the useful idiots. I don't think they deserve to be the only group prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for trespassing too hard with a misguided protest

I am however very interested in getting to the bottom of Trump and Co's attempts to use the court system to dishonestly throw out election results. It was basically an attempt at a coup through shady judges. If they had a few more politicians (Pence) going along with it we could have had a much worse mess on our hands than we already did.
