News James Vick Retires From MMA

oh man that was heartfelt. I feel for the guy and wish him the best. That was a great decision to leave while he still has his wits and be there for his son.

Well said.

Not a fan of his coach or his decision to stick by him, but that aside, Vick made the best of what he was working with. Extreme weight cutting likely ended his career a bit early IMO, but that is just speculation.

Thoughtful retirement announcement.

His son is probably going to have to go to therapy if he ever decides to watch the hellashish beatings James took.

That's some life changing CTE, I feel for his family.

Good to see. Speaking of which is Barao officially retired? Hasn't fought in a while but I havent heard him say it. Not as bad as Vick but when you were up there being considered the best of all time to not being able to win I think it's time to hang it up.
Barao is 1 and 7 since 2015 WTF!

one ko the rest decisions and a few close ones iirc. Its not like he was getting his doors blown off, he just lost rounds to better guys that night. Vick was getting MURKED for whatever reason. getting ko'd so much is terrible for your confidence.

I thought Barao got robbed in his last fight. He was doing alot of work on the ground. I had him winning rounds 2 & 3.

I just saw vicks last fight. He took some BOMBS and uppercuts and didnt drop. What a fucking warrior. No one can ever questions that guys heart.

He has nothing left to prove so it’s a good call retiring.
Very much an over achiever, I don’t see him working his way back to the UFC anyway following that loss, although I expect he may come back from retirement for another shot in a few years once his kids old enough to understand what it’s about.

War Vick. The JBG is not kind, only fair.

He fought in UFC against some of the toughest and meanest mf out there.
All the best with recovery, and here's hoping he earned enough money to enjoy the rest of his life, as best as he can.

Yea, I'm glad he is done for now. Still, like most guys that retire from mma I have a feeling he'll be back for more and I don't think it'll end well for him. Vick's best option imo is to hang em up for good.
It’s sad. 99% of guys that get this far in the game of mma have zero other career options. I imagine Vick will coach and then fight again.

Imagine being 13-1 to retiring on a 5 fight losing streak (with mostly devastating KO's) in the span of 2.5 years?

Looking back at it he didn't have an easy run. Gaethje, Felder, Hooker then Price. You tell me those names in that order and I assume it was someone ranked in the top 3 on their way out (Conor/Ferguson)

He could have had a much longer career with friendlier match making.
