News James Vick Retires From MMA

Good for him, he wasn't ever coming back near the top 15 after all those brutal losses. The sooner he retires, the better it is for him.

I read his retirement statement, and I almost felt for the guy. While reading it, you can tell he's really passionate about fighting, and it's a very tough decision for him.

That said, I'm not gonna miss Vick. He always came across as being very whiny and entitled in his wins and losses. He was also an eye-poke extraordinaire almost as bad as Jon Jones. And of course, I don't think anyone can forget the cringey trash talk he tried to make towards Justin Gaethje.

However, the one thing I appreciated about Vick was despite how he acted, he had a very good run for a while, and he played spoiler to a lot of highly touted prospects. The sport's more interesting when guys like him quietly derail hype-trains. Even though he was a d'bag in the UFC, I hope he enjoys his well-earned retirement.

i hate to say it but the world needs people to be humbled like Vick did here. best wishes to him in his next endeavour but one thing is assured, he'll be packing humble pie in his lunchbox.

Was never really a fan of his, but it's hard to not feel for him there. Hespect.

I wish him nothing but the best, sincerely. I think reaching the UFC Top 10 as a guy who started training at 20 years old is a huge achievement, nothing to be ashamed of.
Also I think it shows intelligence to retire at this point, good for him and I hope he finds success elsewhere.

I don't like him personally, just not my type of guy, but my respect for any and everyone who enters that cage and pursues what he loves and has passion for it is immense. And James Vick gave us memorable moments in the Octagon for sure.

Starting so late and getting top 10 in the UFC while working full time is pretty damn impressive in my book.

I’ve never been a fan of Vick, between his shit talk and some of the stupid ass things he’s said publicly, but I respect him a lot more for his honesty and knowing when to call it quits. I wish him the best.

Hopefully he made enough to retire...
he made enough in his career to pay his bills at the time and maybe have a little savings cushions but there's absolutely no way he made enough to legitimately retire.

He could easily live another 45 years. To properly retire that you g you'd be saying he has two or three million dollars in the bank right now which is a no (most players that are drafted in the NFL don't even have that much when it's all said and done)

I thought his trash talk against Gaychee was pretty mild and don't see why everyone is buthurt over it. Gaychee talked a lot nonsense, priding himself on the amount of damage he took, wearing it like a badge of honor saying he was glad he got finished rather than it going to a decision etc. He deserved to be mocked for that tbf.

No need to be insulting, fella. You certainly were treating Vick like a victim, for example when you are complaining about how fans are so very cruel to him. Fans cheered Vick when he was winning and laughed when he got KTFO. That's the fight game.

Not to drag this thing out, but I went over to Vick's Instagram page, read some of the comments, and this is the kind of shit I was referring to:

It’s called karma for being a piece of shit trumptard. Glad you got hurt you fucking loser.

So it's not even really about enjoying watching someone getting KO'd in a fight because you like that aspect of the sport. It's these scumbags who are legitimately glad (because of something completely unrelated to the sport) that someone suffers possibly long-term damage.

whats crazy is he probably coulda won if he didnt posture up
Almost identical to the leaning straight back thing he does on the feet that always gets him floored, it's uncanny.

In P.E. through high school, there was always some lanky, uncoordinated guy playing basketball and those of us who lifted weights came up with "a waste of height" as a term for this phenomenon.

I think it fits for Vick

I’m glad he had the common sense to get out when he did

Always kind of liked Vick. His guillotine on Ramsey Nijem was the first UFC fight I saw live and in person. Cool to see how high a TUF curtain jerker got in the rankings, but sad to see how fast his career crashed and burned.

Makes me wonder who will be the next.

oh man that was heartfelt. I feel for the guy and wish him the best. That was a great decision to leave while he still has his wits and be there for his son.
