News James Vick Retires From MMA

Right decision for him to take.
Good on him for pulling the plug. Pointless to keep going at this point for him.

Broken jaw and broken orbital is no joke and I wish him well in his recuperation.

Wish well for him and his family. He entertained me in both wins and losses. Good call James Vick, Thank You!

He didn't have any background in combat sports when he started training MMA at age 20. Only 4 years later, he made it to the semi-finals on the Ultimate Fighter on a season that included Michael Chiesa, Al Iaquinta, Drew Dober, James Krause, Vinc Pinchel, Myles Jury, and Daron Cruickshank. Then proceeded to win his first 5 UFC fights. That's very impressive.

We've made fun of James Vick and his getting KO'd repeatedly over the years but this was absolutely the right move. Good dad apparently. Can't think of a better worded farewell message from an MMA fighter.
Good luck, James Vick!

In before some fuckheads mock him. Oh wait. Too late.

I was never a fan but he has my hespect for what he accomplished and for the bravery he showed in fighting in the first place. Wish him luck with the rest of his life.

While I admit that I was one who celebrated Gaethje beating him, I started feeling a little bad for Texecutioner during that brutal streak of KO's in the Hooker/Price fights. Dude was getting clowned on social media every time he lost.

I war really hoping he would turn it around against Fialho. His decline was fucking rapid post-Gaethje. He seems to enjoy coaching Karate and BJJ, let's hope he continues going in that direction.

Yeah, like some others have said, I thought it was pretty cruel that people were getting joy from seeing him get starched multiple times. I rooted for him his last couple of fights just because I hate to see anyone go on such a skid.

Smart move and I wish him well. Yes, he was a bit of a prick in the lead up the Gaethje fight but maybe he was just trying to do what Conor did but lacked the charismas to pull it off. Anyway, decent fighter that wasn't really built for this yet still achieved more than 99% of his critics ever will.

It's MMA. We're always kind of hoping for brutal KOs. If that's wrong, then the whole thing is wrong. Vick wasn't treated especially cruelly. He's a fighter, not a victim.

Still don’t understand why the ref didn’t let him put his mouthpiece back in. Surgery and all that damage probably could have been avoided if the ref simply paused the fight

Either way smart decision on his part

Hasn't he been loyal to one gym his entire career? I'm sure he could fall back on some kind of position there

He really was a walking punching bag his last few. Sucks to see anyone not be able to do their line of work to provide for the family anymore, but hopefully the man can find a new profession. He’s not too old.

hats off for knowing when to call it. Can’t say I didn’t enjoy watching his skid but can’t fight like that forever and expect to have a brain and/or job.

No, people talked shit on other forums too. Mostly a bunch of pussies who have no idea what it's like to be in a fistfight.

He came across a bit of a dick vs Gaethje

But respect to anyone who gets into the cage to fight. That post was really well written and makes you feel for the guy and his family, hopefully he finds whatever career is next.

He was just trying to market some interest, everyone was doing it at the same time trying to take the Conor route. Kevin Lee was the cringiest, talking about being a draw etc, embarrassing.

i was a fan. rooted for him against justin too. i remember seeing his interviews before saying he couldnt get a fight he seemed like a decent dude. then he started gettin loud during other interviews and tweeting. then he gets the justin fight and loses big, and everyone only remembers him as a loud mouth. i remember him from tuf Kneeing crukshank and eventually getting felled by chiesa.
