Good. The Reeves/Pattinson Batman should be it's own thing

Well, Cavill's out as Superman (dunno how to post twitter threads, if you even can, so you'll have to expand it yourself)

The DCU already was a complete mess now Gunn is making it an even bigger distaster. Zero poiht to the black Adam cameo now. A total reboot is the only thing that fixes this now. No point to seeing aqua man next year as they are laughably going to make Mamoa into another character after that nor is there a point to seeing the flash now either.

MCU with another 10-5 round despite putting out average content in 2022

The point of the Cavill cameo in Black Adam was for Dwayne Johnson to show that he has influence within WBDC. James Gunn is simply reminding Dwayne that James is his boss.

SUPERMAN Reboot Written by James Gunn Will Focus on the Younger Years of the Hero; Henry Cavill Not Returning

James Gunn is making his first big move at DC and will pen a Superman movie. The project will focus on the younger years of the hero, and thus he will be played by a new actor rather than Superman veteran Henry Cavill.

Gunn and his DC Studios co-chair and co-CEO Peter Safran recently met with Cavill to share the news, and to discuss ideas for potentially collaborating in the future on something else, perhaps a different role.

At this stage, Gunn is merely writing the script, though he could potentially direct depending on where his services are needed at DC Studios, according to insiders.

“Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year,” Gunn wrote on Twitter Wednesday. “Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”

Though this Superman will be on the younger side, he won’t be living in Smallville but rather will be Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent, according to insiders.

The news may be a surprise to fans who expected Cavill to return as Superman in the near future. Cavill appeared in a post-credits sequence in Black Adam, released in October, and the Monday after the film opened, posted a message on Instagram announcing he was back as Superman. According to sources, that Instagram message was sanctioned by Warners brass, before Gunn and Safran were hired, thus the change in plans.

Cavill, who announced his departure from the Netflix series The Witcher following his return as Superman, reflected on the change in an Instagram post, writing, “I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to [Gunn and Safran’s] hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

Warners has also been developing a Black superman film written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and produced by J.J. Abrams, and Gunn’s new movie is said to not have an impact on that project, with Coates still working on the script.

Warners has long wanted Gunn to tackle a Superman movie. In 2018, after Gunn departed Marvel Studios for DC when he was temporarily fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, then-Warners studio boss Toby Emmerich pushed for Gunn to take on Superman. Gunn opted to write and direct The Suicide Squad instead. That movie also paved the way for Peacemaker, the HBO Max spinoff starring John Cena, and gave Gunn a taste of worldbuilding in the DC universe.

Still, Superman has long been a favorite of Gunn, who has been thinking about this new movie since his early days at DC four years ago. Over the weekend, Gunn marked the anniversary of the 1978 film by Richard Donner, sharing the poster and reminiscing about seeing it in theaters in Missouri as a child. Wrote the filmmaker and exec: “I loved it and it rivaled Star Wars for me. And the score blew my mind.”

It kinda double hurts when he left the Witcher partly to be Superman.
I think he was leaving that mess regardless. What a clown show over at Netflix, it should have been an easy slam dunk.

There have been many Superman portrayals over the years, but Cavill was the first to do it well since Christopher Reeve (the best). I do like the guy from Superman and Lois too. Snyder made him too dark, but listening to Cavill's take on the character (optimistic/hopeful) I was really excited to see him do it with a better vision in the director's chair. This is going to piss off a lot of fans, including me.

If there's any positive coming from this, Cavill is free to pursue some other goals he has, like playing Macleod in Highlander or some character in Warhammer 40K. The latter has the best lore in any IP IMO, which also has yet to have a proper live action blockbuster/series. He'd be a perfect Eisenhorn or Constantin Valdor.

Eisenhorn is still early preproduction last I heard, being helmed by the guys who made Man in the High Castle. I'm just finishing book 1 of the trilogy, it's fucking awesome!

Ben Affleck Approached by DC Studios' James Gunn and Peter Safran to Direct a Future DC Film

After James Gunn announced that he is developing a brand new Superman movie, with Henry Cavill not returning to the role, the trades are sharing even more intel on what he and Peter Safran are planning for their upcoming DC Universe slate, and it sounds extremely exciting.

Multiple sources are reporting that, in addition to Cavill, the new DC bosses also met with 2x Academy Award-winner and former Batman actor Ben Affleck recently to talk to him about the possibility of directing a film in the newly revamped DC Universe, which will launch in earnest in 2024.

Affleck was previously attached to helm a film centered on his version of Batman, where he would've presumably squared off against Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello), but that project was ultimately scrapped in favor of Matt Reeves' vision for The Batman.

While it's doubtful that Gunn and Safran would want Affleck to tackle another Batman film, especially with Reeves already hard at work on a sequel to The Batman as well as a Penguin TV series, we'd imagine the Oscar-winner will be able to pick almost anyone else from the vast DC library to develop a film around. He might even be a contender for Gunn's Superman project.

Before he gets back in the director's chair, Affleck is slated to reprise his role as the Dark Knight for one last adventure in Andy Muschietti's The Flash next summer. However, it sounds like he may no longer appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Cavill definitely looked the part for Superman, and in other movies seemed like he had the acting chops to make the character memorable. Too bad Zack Snyder was the guy directing him.

It’s insane to me to see what a god damned mess things are over at DC/WB. Post-Endgame MCU has been super underwhelming and yet DC hasn’t been able to swoop in and take advantage, and instead the entire Snyderverse appears to be getting swept into the trash bin.

Aquaman 2 and Flash are still coming out, right? But then that will be it for Snyderverse? Everything after those will be Gunnverse? Or were they also working on a Shazam 2? Or did that already come out and I just wasn’t aware?

Jesus what a mess.
