News Jailton Almeida OFFICIALLY Moving Down to 205/LHW

Unless he figures out how to fight standing, even just serviceably, idc which weight class he's in

His striking actually looked fine once he accepted that he was never getting a takedown and not winning any of the clinch battles against Kuniev lol.

Like, he didn't want to do it but he had absolutely no options left. All of a sudden he was landing good shots and clearly getting the better of the boxing.

It’s not even that. His standup skills are pretty standard for an MMA fighter. What’s holding him back is fear of being hit. It’s not even his chin because he’s never been put to sleep. The guy has no heart.

All he needs to do is improve his wrestling and striking while changing his body composition at age 34

worst take of the day
Salty. Pereira is 40 years old and has no defense against cagefucking. Ankalaev beat him everywhere, but also showed he has no urgency against the cage à la Jose Aldo. Pereira gets cagehumped for 3 rounds, goes for broke in the 4th and gets summarily double leg'd and RNC'd with zero strikes thrown from Almeida.

Bro should have never left. I called it years ago when he first made the switch. I said he would do fine against the scrubs, but the moment he came up against ranked HWs with a physicality advantage over him plus some measure of athleticism and/or and grappling prowess, he would stall out. I think I even specifically mentioned dudes like Blaydes and Volkov.

Sure, 205ers might be a little faster and a little more technical overall. But I don't think the level of grappling talent at LHW is so much higher across the board to cancel out the fact that Jailton will be grappling against dudes he's liable to have a major size & strength advantage over.

He's #6 at HW at the moment, but that will probably drop soon. IMO, give him someone in the 9-15 range at 205 and let him work up.

It wasn't anything great, but it definitely wasn't awful either. Even when he's throwing hands his athleticism and explosiveness seem to translate and he fucked Spivac up with the first clean punch he landed not long ago. By the standards of a Heavyweight grappler, it could be worse.

That said, he is a bit one-dimensional with his attacks and definitely gun-shy. And yeah, he definitely seems to be one of those who gets stuck in one "mode" or another rather than blending his arts.

It's truly amazing how many good grapplers don't even learn a level change feint to an overhand right or feint the overhand to a level change lol. When you're as good a grappler as jailton, you only really need a couple respectful tools on the feet if you can actually blend it with the grappling.

Khabib got by with a decent jab, a wonky uppercut and a windmill of an overhand simply because he knew how to encorpaorte his level changes in with those basic tools.

Zero clue what you're talking about.. good luck with this account

He'll run into the same problems. Dropping weight won't make him not a 1 trick pony.

Send him to Dagestan for 1 years and he'll be ready

He needs to go to thailand and learn some basic muay thai and clinch stand up

He should 100% go train at "Fighting Nerds" and/or Chute Boxing W/ Charles.

Learn some striking down there.

Guy needs to develop a jab, an overhand and improves his TDs.

If he can’t atleast do 1 of those, don’t matter what weight he fights at.

He needs to develop his striking AND learn a few submissions.

Already been there before, I mean unless he stops being allergic to ground 'n' pound then I don't know what will change. He gets in good positions on the ground but just refuses to throw any punches or elbows or anything, its not a sport BJJ match

You're all crazy! He needs to double down and become the most aggressive butt-scooter who ever lived!

bingo. this used to be the bread and butter of nearly all grapplers, no matter where they came from. now a days everybody fights like Aaron Pico, try to learn all this slick shit, don't fully understand what they're doing and get smashed. or they can't put it together to create the synergy needed, they gotta K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Stupid.

He didn't look bad when he was actually throwing but in the Lewis fight even he could have easily finished him if he threw ground strikes. Lewis was waiting for the ref to step in several times yet Almeida barely even attempted low-risk ground and pound.

Number one thing jiu jitsu and judo guys need to do is learn how to jab and then actually use it.
