Yeah, Whittaker and Pereira are his only quality wins. Costa, Vettori, Romero and Cannonier are trash.

Alex is great but we all know he's been hidden from grapplers. Ankalaev getting Rakic while Rountree gets the shot is DISGUSTING.

Point was Izzy didnt have to fight serious well rounded fighters who can grapple. Everyone knows Alex cant grapple.

45yo Yoel and 38yo Cannonier are good wins but Izzy barely scraped by and probably lost to Yoel. Couldnt dominate Jared either.

I'm not an Izzy fan. I thought Dricus would take this.
 
My gripe with Izzy wasn't his actual title reign. My gripe was that he somehow got a title shot in an era with Weidman/Rockhold/Jacare/Romero at the top and didn't fight any of them prior to his title shot. THAT was sneaky fuckery by the UFC protecting kickboxers from grapplers... a trick they repeated for his rival Poatan of course.
 
How many eras of the UFC middleweight division are there, and where would you rank this one among them, @ExitLUPin ? The time period you pointed to in '15 was definitely great, perhaps the best ever era for the division. I don't think Israel is the GOAT middleweight (but to be honest I've not put much thought into where I'd rank him all time in the division).

I don't think so. Anderson, Belfort and Machida had Weidman in trouble with technical striking. And they were old at the time they fought Weidman.

NONE of them had good submission grappling to threaten him. Izzy a kickboxer mostly had to worry about other strikers. Yoel was an Olympic wrestler but everyone knows he feel in love with his striking and barely grappled near the end of his career and Yoel still arguably won.

Ancient Brunson wasnt even top 10 in a real MW era yet 37yo he was top 5 and in a title eliminator with 38yo Cannonier.

Izzy gets killed in this MW era and never makes top 5. He loses to most of those fighters prime for prime. Even Tim Kennedy is a nightmare matchup for him.

Rob was the PERFECT style matchup for him. Height, reach, counterstriking and Rob isnt a great offensive wrestler yet Rob still arguably won the rematch. Izzy was a great MW but never close to GOAT. If he sticks around the more well rounded MWs like Dricus, Borralho, Khamzat we see emerging now have more of the well rounded skillsets of the great MW era of the 2010s MW which Izzy missed. He had timing on his side for hsi reign.
