Tripping pipe is industry name for pulling the pipe out of the hole

For example, they'll drill down to the curve and go to point A. Then they pull the pipe back out of the hole until the bit gets back to the curve. They'll then put the pipe back in and drill to point B. Pull the pipe out to the curve, drill to point C. On on and on. Most drill pipe sections are about 30ft each, so if they do a 4500 foot curve they're pulling 150 chunks of pipe back out of the hole.

Places like Saudi Arabia don't need to run curves for oil, they can drill straight down and much more shallow to hit oil.

No one is throwing chain in the US these days. Even the cheap chinesium piece of shit rigs don't throw chains.

It makes their break even around $10-15, which is why they thought they could drive out US shale with the pricing war. That wasn't ever really going to happen given how much it has been propped up and pumped with external financing, but it definitely gave an incentive for exploration firms to innovate.

It's also too bad for the Saudis that their entire society hinges on energy and they really need prices closer to $70 to hold it together long term. They were killing themselves and burning through hundreds of billions in cash reserves with that cute little stunt.

Not sure what she should have done here. To her this chick was batshit crazy, wasn't like she could calmly discuss with her why that is in the moment. So she diffused the situation and tried to move forward. I think she handled it well.

And yeah you really can't make this shit up. If someone had told me a mere 10 years ago how things are now I'd have called them crazy.
