I kind of felt bad for Stan throughout the movie, knowing how things end for him as an adult.

Just watched it today (I know, very late to the party). I agree with DragonLord in that it's a fine movie but at the end, it didn't take the extra step to become great or epic. Bill Skarsgård did a fantastic job as Pennywise. However, I agree with DragonLord that it feels like any capable actor could have portrayed the character (no disrespect to Skarsgård). I feel like he was not given the chance to input some personality into the character and I think that was done on purpose since this Pennywise is more animalistic, more of a creature. I know many people are not fond of the mini-series, but I found myself missing Curry's shit talking and mannerisms while watching this film. That's what makes him so memorable to me. I enjoyed watching him messing with the kids with words, instead of crazy projections and illusions (something that was probably done due to budgetary and technical limitations at the time).

Another reason why I prefer Curry's Pennywise is that he seemed a bit more 'human' at first so when the supernatural stuff came out, it was more of a shock. Don't get me wrong, he looked like a freak you wouldn't want to have anything to do with. However, you would, at first, think of him as some guy who is not all there but not some inter-dimensional being that eats kids. With Skarsgård's portrayal, you get a sense that this is not a human being from the get go (oversize forehead, the fact that he is the size of an NBA player). Just to be clear, these are not necessarily criticisms but more of explanation on why I prefer Curry's Pennywise a tiny bit more (not much, don't worry).

There were very few scenes where it took me out of the film or felt a bit out of place. For instance, I have mixed feelings about the tail end of the projector scene. Honestly, it was more of the choice of deciding to go that far and not the CGI (which was fine for most of the film). It felt a little like something out of The Mask (1994). However, I have to say God bless Muschietti for the including the 'dancing scene'. If his intention was to have that part be scary, he failed. However, that thing is going to be a meme and animated gif that will be used online for many years to come :) Do not be surprised if this turns into the next Gangnam Style with a bunch of people posting videos online of them doing it so enjoy before it becomes played out.
Definitively, one of the most entertaining WTF film moments in the last couple of years.

Overall, this is one of the rare cases where I don't feel really strongly about either the new one or the old one being better. Again, I prefer Curry's portrayal of Pennywise but I wouldn't put much of an argument if people told me they like this new one better (I mean, I like it too). I just feel that there are certain things the mini-series did better than the movie but the movie surpassed the mini-series in many other areas. I would definitively recommend it and I look forward to seeing Chapter Two when they are adults.

I went back for a second viewing today. I really enjoyed it again. One thing I didn't notice the first time was the librarian creepily staring at Ben as he was flipping through the history of Derry books. That was so subtle, but if you notice it, extremely creepy.

Oh yeah, I noticed that on first viewing. I was expecting her to mess with him right there and then. That pharmacist was creepy as all hell too. Hope he comes back for Chapter Two.

Aside from her great acting and looking hot (if she wants to be), I cast Amy Adams as adult Beverly in my mind because the young Beverly actress looked like Amy to me when I was watching the movie.

I agree but I would much prefer if they went with lesser known actors for the adult versions. It's probably not going to happen considering how well this film is doing and the hype that will be surrounding Chapter Two. So..... sure, bring in Chris Pratt to play grown up Ben ;)

After watching the new It and not really liking it, I decided to revisit the original It which I haven't seen since childhood, and the original isn't all that great either. I think I liked the remake better. I like Stephen King and all, but this just isn't one of his better stories. To be fair, I haven't read the book, but reading the synopsis about an ancient space turtle and gangbang child sex tells me that this must have been the period when King was getting high on household cleaning products.

Also, Pennywise is a less effective Freddy Krueger. If I'm choosing which character is the better supernatural force that preys on kids' fears, then it's Freddy all day.
It's almost better to think of it as Stephen King as the more effective Freddy Kruger, rather than his characters. He's got a supernatural knack for pulling dread and terror out of banal circumstances, thus the effect is readers believing there is something just beyond their average, everyday field of vision.

For various reasons, though, the visual interpretations of his ideas are more miss than hit because visually it's nearly impossible to separate how silly some of it might look or seem. As we were ramping up for THE DARK TOWER, I wondered what they'd keep and what they'd jettison. For instance, I think people would buy a talking train, and a cybernetic giant bear, and a warlock, and order of cowboy knights, and teleportation, and the author writing himself into his own fiction -- but not all in the same story. It's a bit much to swallow. Visually-speaking.

But in the arena of the mind, Stephen King prevails.

The librarian scene was one of the creepier scenes in the movie IMO, and I bet a ton of people totally overlooked it. When the pharmacist told Beverly she looked like Lois Lane after she said he looked like Clark Kent there were a few audible groans of cringe in the seats behind me lol.

A couple weeks ago CM Punk posted a story that he watched the IT trailer and got excited for the movie so he decided to read the copy of the book he had. He opened up the book and the date said 8/31/90. The current date was 8/31/17, exactly 27 years from the time he started reading the book. He used to write down the dates as a kid when he started and finished a book. Thats pretty trippy.

Yeah, it was pretty obvious what was on his mind before uttering that line but it was a smart way to confirm that to the audience.

SJW have not claimed "IT" as one of their own.. I'm seeing a ton of shit on Facebook etc that "Pennywise" the clown or "IT" is actually a female.. and women are celebrating about it all over the place.. Wow. Anyone that has read the books knows that "IT" is an alien creature that manipulate into whatever it wants.. In the books there are indeed mentions of egg sacs etc near the end.. But holy fuck...

It appears that women and transgenders are trying to make this film into some sort of movement lol..
