It kinda pisses me off how a guy like Bruce Lee gets more credit and recognition than real fighters

I found lots of people get too carried away with how good bruce was but way more people underestimate how good he was and say he was nothing more then an actor which is retarded if you actually researched enough about him. The more you research into the facts of bruce lee and what professional fighters said about him the more you realize he was a good martial artist and way ahead of his time which is what hes so popular for

Actually, Bruce recognized that. He started to study Judo. His vision was to cross train multiple arts and build his own. He never really got the chance to realize it

That is the main reason why he shouldnt be considered so important. If he was still alive he would have shown himself to be fraudulent at some point, especially considering he would have never ever competed and have had to given even more excuses as to why.

His myth persist bc of his early death, while his contemporary Chuck Norris actually followed through on Bruce's stolen philosophy and is revered for doing so.

Bruce Lee was before UFC. If anything Bruce Lee helped create the UFC by bringing martial arts into the forefront despite it being in movies.

I guarantee a lot of fighters today respect and idolize Bruce. Manny Pacquiao, Anderson Silva, GSP speak highly of Bruce Lee. You know what those 3 have in common? The all ATG's in their fucking sport. Put some respect on his name mongoloid

MMA existed b4 the UFC.

Vale Tudo in Brazil was going on for decades b4 the UFC.

The Gracies are significantly older than Bruce Lee.

Get your facts straight.

What dumb jocks and fanboys idolize does not make something more than it is. Dumbass.

This is actually kind of amazing to see. Bruce Lee has been dead for almost 50 years now and so many of the greatest fighters walking the planet has such respect for him and his teachings. I used to love Bruce Lee when I was a kid as well, that's what got me into martial arts.

He definitely trained with some high level people, but whether or not he would actually have gone far as a fighter is a moot point. Anyone can see he was skilled, knowledgable and an exceptional athlete. More importantly, he was a pioneer in more ways than one, and a 'larger than life' persona. There's some excellent stuff in his books.

One of the earlier clips him with:

+1
Even if you believe he had no legitimate skills, his cultural impact is undeniable.

Spreading the art and reaching global acclaim is the main criteria for advanced Dan rank in just about every TMA including BJJ. So at a bare minimum he was a 10th Dan equivalent in kung fu/jeet kune do. That he achieved this posthumously makes it even more astounding.

The guy has fanboys on every corner, i see videos and comments on youtube by guys saying that bruce would dominate the ufc, he hits harder than a heavyweight and moves like a flyweight, i saw a comment with shit load of likes saying that bruce would beat michael jai white in a fight, yeah, you heard it right... A tiny Asian man that stood at 5ft6 150lbs soaking wet beating up a 6ft2 200+lbs jacked mulitple black belt life time martial artist. He also hits harder than Mike Tyson... Who are these individuals that spread this type of misinformation?

I dont get it, he has no proffesional fights on his record, in anything... And there is no footage of him fighting or competing against any pro or known fighter.

At least chuck norris has a karate record.

It seems its better to fake it till you make it than actually doing it for real.

Can someone explain it to me, what impresses you?
He's athletic, looks good in movies, has cool quotes, the one inch punch that has no tie in with actual fighting where your opponet doesnt stand there and let you hit him (in most cases) and oh dear, worst case scenario pushes you back slightly.

I look at him the same way i look Steven Seagal, at least Seagal taught Silva that front kick.

I'll explain it to you in a very simple way. People are morons and have no clue what they are talking about. Once that is considered it all makes sense.

Hahaha pretty good mma fighter?! He was the best ever to live. Fight a little? Gtfo
Lol, are you seriously attacking me here dude?? You do realize I'm one of the few that are actually more or less on your side right???

As for him being "The best MMA fighter to ever live" that's a pretty absurd statement since he never actually had an MMA fight.. (Kind of see why TS made this thread now to be honest) ..

But yeah, like I said, I'm pretty confident he could fight a little and had MMA been around as a sport at the time he certainly wouldn't have been completely out of his element and could very well have done quite well.

Saying "He was the best ever to live" mind you about a guy who had 0 documented no holds barred contests is probably a huge part in why threads like this are made so frequently still.

Saying he was the best MMAist that ever lived is equally as absurd and baseless as saying he wouldn't stand a chance against any MMA fighter today.

Let's not forget the current champion in the division he would most likely compete in at his ideal weight is only fighting at all because he reached the end of the line in Rugby but realized he was tough enough too compete at the highest level in MMA if he could cut enough weight despite having 0 previous combat sport background.

People just can't let go of myths and unsubstantiated claims. Look at religion. lol

Bruce Lee was never a fighter and would get spanked by any all state high school wrestler or any bjj blue belt with ease.

Leave "it's still real to me dammit" in the rearview.

Ive seen a lot of blue belts in BJJ, college wrestlers and Judo black belts get roughed up by bigger athletic guys with no proper martial arts backgrounds quite a few times. Ive seen the opposite more, of course train martial artists taking it to bigger, stronger men but still. Im not sure a blue belt is just gonna choke out Bruce Lee assuming theyre similar sizes or a highschool state champ even.

That being said I've heard people speak as if Bruce would be a UFC champion, beat Buakaw in Muay Thai and possibly knock out the likes of Mayweather or Canelo type deals. Which is, insane. He his more myth than man, he never had professional fights nor have we seen him compete at a high level in anything.

If I could like this a million times - I would. I have been saying this for ages. There is nothing more annoying to me than a "Bruce Lee would kill *insert actual great fighter*" guy.

Good point, I assume these same types probably claimed a guy like Derrick Lewis would fight for the HW Title, or better yet a guy like Brock Lesner would actually win in.

I mean obviously these two situations are far more likely than a life long MAist who invented one of the most influential styles in history possibly having any chance against a current MMA fighter right..... Lol.

It's not like a pro Rugby player that switched too MMA on a whim is the current champion in the division he would be most likely to compete in or anything right.....

Who are the "morons who have no idea what they are talking about" again?

Knew martial arts? He basically founded mma as we know it today man. Wow do some research.
Man, no he fucking did not. I'm so sick of people saying this shit. Modern MMA was founded by the Gracie family who absolutely were not inspired by Bruce Lee. They simply wanted to prove that BJJ was the supreme martial art and then the sport evolved from there. Nothing would have changed about the sport of MMA if Bruce Lee never existed. People just retroactively found some quotes by him that nobody at all paid attention to at the time and made them fit into their own revised version of the story. Stop disrespecting real athletes and fighters that built this sport.

The truth is, if it weren't for martial arts movies, MMA as a sport would probably not exist. For sure UFC or Pride would not have existed

Funny you are mad at that because actual real FIGHTERS from Sugar ray leonard, Anderson Silva to Mcgregor and everyone in between all idolize or acknowledge Bruce Lee as a great if not the greatest Martial Artist of all time. Lots of modern day "real fighters" will openly admit to taking from Bruce Lee's mental game. His impact was huge.... hell they even put him in the UFC game.

Yes hes not the greatest "fighter" and fighting has evolved greatly through MMA, but as a martial artist first and foremost there's no one that made as big as an impact as Bruce Lee.

Maybe instead of comparing him to fighters he could be compared to a coach. A prominent one. Not that he trains someone specific (although he did), but teaching martial arts to the regular guy. Through films, seminars and classes.

You mean...you could cry a million times?

Bruce was a world-wide inspiration TO THIS DAY and...forever.

Keep crying.

Even if Bruce Lee never fought anybody competitively, the guy is a legend for what he's done for martial arts. Him going to Hollywood opened it up for the world to notice. He made a lot of people get into martial arts, including famous/movie martial artists today and also MMA fighters.

He also planted the seed for MMA to get huge, because of his style of martial arts Jeet Kune Do. Which implemented all kinds of styles and it's constantly evolving. His philosophy and open mindedness is highly admirable. You can't help but look up to Bruce Lee he was a genius, ahead of his time and a pioneer for MMA.

All those things make up for why he's looked up upon like a god by many people. And this is if he never fought officially with anyone. His impact is undeniable.
