It kinda pisses me off how a guy like Bruce Lee gets more credit and recognition than real fighters

Full contact karate and kickboxing did exist b4 Bruce's death, ask Joe Lewis who worked with Bruce. Boxing existed and Bruce was a big fan. Judo and wrestling existed too. Yet he didnt compete in any of these sports. Curious.

The Gracies were b4 Bruce not after, they were just in Brazil, so was Luta Vivre.

Reply with the video if you want, im not fishing for it. I hope it is worth it.

..... and Bruce Lee was doing martial arts before then, as well, but we're talking about bringing the arts out of local obscurity and into the mainstream, and, particularly, into the USA, since that's pretty much the topic of this thread.

None of the Gracies even visited the USA until 1969, when Rorion kind of went around, saw some stuff, and then went back home. He returned and started spreading the word on his art in 1978. So, no, not before Lee, in terms of impact on what is known as MMA today.

If you are talking anything related to modern MMA or combat sports competition, the Gracies

Kickboxing did exist before his death, in a very fractured, sparse way, in the USA, you are right - didn't exist when that video was filmed, did not exist when Lee started spreading his teaching, and was just starting in the early 1970s.

My incorrect reference was about the first major mainstream sanctioned event, when the PKA held their first World Championships, in 1974.

I already posted the video, on page 15 of this thread, AS I SAID IN THE COMMENT YOU REPLIED TO. That's only "fishing for it" if you have brain damage. Click on the #15 at the bottom of the screen.

I think you meant "gall."

Correct

Yes.

What it comes down to is simply...a lack of respect.

In the case of many Sherbros, it can go WAY beyond that into jealously territory.

It really boggles the mind how people can be so fucking sour for no fucking reason.
Most of these dweebs are former Bruce Lee fans who took took a BJJ class and now think they would kick Bruce's ass with their blue belt grappling. They'll come back around with the wisdom of age.

The Gracies were decades older than Bruce. I dont care that they didn't visit the USA b4 Bruce was dead. Bruce wasn't the only guy in the USA, he was just the most famous. Jack Dempsey and other famous old boxing champions were cross training decades b4 Bruce and were well versed in wrestling and catch wrestling in the USA. Do they deserve credit like Bruce? They were actual fighters and world class at that. Bruce didn't even compete or was put under any pressure to prove his legitimacy.

And.....once again Joe Lewis, Chuck Norris, and Gene Lebell were personal friends of Bruce. Why did he refuse to compete when they were all competing in the combat sports mentioned? Is it that he was too good or was definitely pro level but wasn't interested? No. He was unsure he could translate whatever skill he had under pressure while competing. That is the default position, people who can perform under stress are the exception not the rule.

If you really care about this video proving anything reply with the it again. Otherwise I have to believe that it isn't strong enough evidence for your convictions lazy boy.

This is what Chuck Norris said about fighting Bruce Lee.

Bruce would beat him, as long as it was in the script.

Here's one of Bruce's original students, who was, before meeting Lee, a combat instructor for Special Forces, and was undefeated as a boxer when he was in the Air Force. The whole thing is relevant, but he specifically address TS at 1:46.

Obviously, as one of his first students, the guy is a bit of a fan-boy, but he probably knows more about what Lee was like than someone basing their assessment over NOT seeing him, and being irritated by the hyperbole.

And here's someone doing some analysis of that brief video clip of Lee sparring.

And, finally, I guess TS thinks that the best MMA champions of today are full of crap....
