It kinda pisses me off how a guy like Bruce Lee gets more credit and recognition than real fighters

Bruce was a small guy, sure. Pretty average height actually but very thin. Which is relevant but his being Chinese is not really, besides the fact that you’re generally wrong.

The average Chinese is the same height as the average Jamaican or Greek or Egyptian. Not the biggest but not the smallest either. It’s not like they’re tiny Indonesians or Filipinos. And they’ve been pretty dominant in Olympic weightlifting (only behind USSR/Russia all time) and generally put on strength and muscle well.
They dont do great in fighting tho, which is the main thing they are know for in the movies, not many male chinese champions anywhere really.

Get a grip, man. If you can’t separate cinema from real life, you need to take a step back. Then look at what Bruce Lee did for martial arts. He’s literally the biggest name in MA, and always will be. Who gives a damn if he could beat such and such fighters?

Bruce Lee:
  • Made it popular to train in martial arts in the west
  • Made it feasible to own a martial arts school and make a livable wage
  • Pioneered the idea of mixing martial arts and their principles and using what was good from each to become a better fighter
  • Inspired things like The Karate Kid, which inspired Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc. which has maintained kids interest in martial arts for almost half a century
The dude took the traditions of the east and helped bring them to the west and popularize them. He is documented as a fantastic teacher and sparring partner.

But you're mad people have adulation for him over "real fighters?" Give me a break.

And here's straight from the mouth of Chuck "I have a karate record" Norris

https://blackbeltmag.com/arts/history-philosophy/chuck-norris-vs-bruce-lee
The answer is yes, he would beat bruce lee in a fight, this thred is aimed at him as a fighter, not as an icon or whatever, why do people like to bring him up ws the Greatest fighter of all time without having a fighting record

It actually is, Chael sonnen says it like it is, a guy in hollywood that acted like a fighter but never competed in anything.
If they dare say what i just told you, some nerdy skinny fuck like you gets mad and starts crying about it.
Actor with no real fight footage or fight record that get glorified by nerds like you that belive in magic

It sounds like you didn’t do any research on what he has or hasn’t done.

bruce lee defeated gary elms in boxing. There was an interview with Elm's sister that was posted in the Striking subforum a few months back. Gary Elms himself passed away not too long ago apparently!

Listen to this and tell me this isn't sounding like a guy shitting out of his mouth, seriously, I can't take people who worship this man seriously, they are probably more of the nerdy type and they want to believe a scrawny 4'9 skeleton can beat up an 8'3 Sherdog chad that has muscles on top of its muscles on top of other muscles only a Sherdog can attain. A Sherdog is like a pitbull but 10x the size in both width and height but with some human parts as well.

none of that sounded like shitting out of his mouth like at all.

The guy has fanboys on every corner, i see videos and comments on youtube by guys saying that bruce would dominate the ufc, he hits harder than a heavyweight and moves like a flyweight, i saw a comment with shit load of likes saying that bruce would beat michael jai white in a fight, yeah, you heard it right... A tiny Asian man that stood at 5ft6 150lbs soaking wet beating up a 6ft2 200+lbs jacked mulitple black belt life time martial artist. He also hits harder than Mike Tyson... Who are these individuals that spread this type of misinformation?

I dont get it, he has no proffesional fights on his record, in anything... And there is no footage of him fighting or competing against any pro or known fighter.

At least chuck norris has a karate record.

It seems its better to fake it till you make it than actually doing it for real.

Can someone explain it to me, what impresses you?
He's athletic, looks good in movies, has cool quotes, the one inch punch that has no tie in with actual fighting where your opponet doesnt stand there and let you hit him (in most cases) and oh dear, worst case scenario pushes you back slightly.

I look at him the same way i look Steven Seagal, at least Seagal taught Silva that front kick.

Did he fuck your mom or something?

If you have any videos of him in a pro fight, feel free to share, hr has an exebition match with a unknown guy, bunch of demonstrstions, but no fighting record

No clue who that is, some white dude, couple of pictures no info, no video either, an interview talking about a dude thats dead and cant tell his side of the story.
Could be true could be fake.

Take away the "expressing yourself," he pretty much describes the mechanics of fighting. Muscle memory. Generate force. What Bruce said back then was new to most people. Nowadays just about everybody training some kind of martial arts.

Without pretending to know what Bruce actually means by "expressing yourself," I sort of agree. Jet Li was a multiple national wushu champion, not because he was more technical or athletic than the competition. Wushu is, of course, a performance art and Jet "sold" his moves better than everybody else. If we talk movies, then "expressing yourself" makes much more sense. The martial arts look shitty in Hollywood movies like The Matrix because that actors just mimic motions.

Nobody was ever better at it than Sammo Hung.

I don’t understand why your criteria of being a fighter, means you have to engage in sport competitions. The guy was legit. There’s been countless witnesses to prove these fights happened. The people who say he’d beat Ali in a boxing match, or the like, are obviously talking out of their ass. But you’re going the exact opposite route saying he was a phony, which he wasn’t.

Well I guess by “fighting” you mean MMA, which makes me think you’ve probably never been in a street fight before. MMA is just beginning to be popular in China compared to some other countries like Brazil or Japan or USA where it’s been popular much longer.

Having said that there are only 10 UFC champions from only 7 countries and one of them is Chinese. So again I don’t think you’re proving that Chinese people are genetically inherently worse at MMA or fighting than anyone else.

But I get it, racism isn’t usually founded in reality but in stereotypes.

If you dont do it for real, you're no real, easy as that.
Getting into a ring/cage and fighting a nother proffesional for the world to see or at least an organized competition is what should be respected, i have more respect for cm punk, he sucks but at least he got in there and did it.

cameras weren't really as ubiquitous back in the 1960s as they are now so its not reasonable to declare that something certainly did not happen in that decade on that account, especially when there's corroborating evidence.

by the time he was a huge star (mid 20s), the high opportunity cost of continuing to fight didn't make sense anymore

I love all these fake alpha males wannabe fighter aka sherdoggers talk all shit about Bruce Lee but the people that fight in a legit organization have respect for Bruce Lee. I find it hilarious that most sherdoggers think they're so badass because they watches the ufc... lol

Wmma doesnt count, male champions in boxing, kickboxing at least?

Before there was MMA there were people training in martial arts and many of these techniques ended up in actual MMA.

If not for the Bruce Lee's, the judokas, boxers, kickboxers, karate and tae kwon do, a lot of those techniques would never have existed.

A lot of it was hot garbage, but since UFC 1 the useful parts have been pulled out and implemented.

If nothing else Bruce Lee inspired a lot of people to take up martial arts and these were used in MMA when it came along.

Think GSP gets into karate without Lee? I'm not so sure.

We will never know if Bruce Lee would have been any good at actual fighting, assuming he also learned grappling.

He may not have even wanted to fight as it went against his ethos.

I think you just have your own criteria.
