It kinda pisses me off how a guy like Bruce Lee gets more credit and recognition than real fighters

The art of fighting has evovled so much in just 20 years. You could take the 200th ranked bw and that guy would decimate bruce lee. Honestly i think amanda nunes would wreck him too but that doesnt take anything away from what a legend the guy will always be. If it were not for bruce lee kung fu movies wouldnt have been so popular in the 60s and 70s and many kf the early fighters probably wouldnt even be fighters. There would be karate tourneys wrestling tourneys and boxing and no mma.

Says who tho? The ufc was a competition of who was the best fighter period "no rules" that was the marketing. You think nobody could come up with a simple idea like that without bruce lee.

Bruce was very good for martial arts and his willingness to explore should be commended. However he is not a fighter and would get smashed by any high level MMA fighter or boxer in a fight. A person with 6 months BJJ training might even take him.

The people who worship him and think that he was a great fighter are delusional and don’t know what they are talking about. I actually had an argument irl with somebody about him a few weeks ago because they said that he’d beat any professional fighter in a fight. You will very rarely change these people’s minds. It’s best to just leave the conversation. When people are dumb like that it makes me want to hit them.

The answer is yes, he would beat bruce lee in a fight, this thred is aimed at him as a fighter, not as an icon or whatever, why do people like to bring him up ws the Greatest fighter of all time without having a fighting record

Because they're retards. Or, more accurately, they're just poorly informed. People assumed Chuck Norris was a bad ass without basically any knowledge of his championship background -- they assumed it because he always roundhoused dudes on walker, texas ranger lol

If Chuck Norris respects him as a martial artist, so do I. If it wasn't obvious via his ideology, discipline, and work ethic -- he could have been successful as a fighter. There was far more value in what he invested in.

Lee is one of the greatest p4p of all time only second to Seagal

Before there was MMA there were people training in martial arts and many of these techniques ended up in actual MMA.

If not for the Bruce Lee's, the judokas, boxers, kickboxers, karate and tae kwon do, a lot of those techniques would never have existed.

A lot of it was hot garbage, but since UFC 1 the useful parts have been pulled out and implemented.

If nothing else Bruce Lee inspired a lot of people to take up martial arts and these were used in MMA when it came along.

Think GSP gets into karate without Lee? I'm not so sure.

We will never know if Bruce Lee would have been any good at actual fighting, assuming he also learned grappling.

He may not have even wanted to fight as it went against his ethos.
Why do you assume Bruce didn't learn grappling? Just because grappling is boring in the movies doesn't mean he didn't know and trained it.

This is, of course, primitive, but clips from these movies show that Bruce understood it.

The guy has fanboys on every corner, i see videos and comments on youtube by guys saying that bruce would dominate the ufc, he hits harder than a heavyweight and moves like a flyweight, i saw a comment with shit load of likes saying that bruce would beat michael jai white in a fight, yeah, you heard it right... A tiny Asian man that stood at 5ft6 150lbs soaking wet beating up a 6ft2 200+lbs jacked mulitple black belt life time martial artist. He also hits harder than Mike Tyson... Who are these individuals that spread this type of misinformation?

I dont get it, he has no proffesional fights on his record, in anything... And there is no footage of him fighting or competing against any pro or known fighter.

At least chuck norris has a karate record.

It seems its better to fake it till you make it than actually doing it for real.

Can someone explain it to me, what impresses you?
He's athletic, looks good in movies, has cool quotes, the one inch punch that has no tie in with actual fighting where your opponet doesnt stand there and let you hit him (in most cases) and oh dear, worst case scenario pushes you back slightly.

I look at him the same way i look Steven Seagal, at least Seagal taught Silva that front kick.

You do realize that Bruce Lee founded mma and paved the way not only for the sport but also all the fighters that followed? Also there is no merit to you claiming that Bruce isn't a real fighter either. You might want to do some research before you make such absurd comments.

The dude brought in BJJ guys to train with him in the 70's, even worked some BJJ moves into some of his movies

Cool, show me any proof that he has an actual fighting record or a real recorded fight vs a pro

It's not his fighting prowess that we think is the best. Anyone who says that is clueless.

But to disrespect Bruce Lee is a big mistake, he is one of the forefathers of MMA. He was a philosopher more than a fighter. Who knows how good he would be in the UFC. Everyones argument isn't his technique or devotion because he probably trained harder than most UFC fighters today, then you'd have to translate todays training and add that with Bruce's work ethic and fight IQ which we will never know how great it was.

It's a stupid argument on both sides. It's even dumber fantasize Bruce Lee fighting UFC fighters, he should just be loved and respected for his teachings! Not wondering if his movie stunts translate into actual fights because not even he believed that.

He wasn't a philosopher... He was an actor, he began appearing in movies at the age of 5 as a kid. Also he learned martial arts and was a martial arts master. So calling him philosopher is like an insult, because he wasn't one, even he read lot of philosophy books in his free time...
A philosopher.... When he was a teacher of martial arts... or mainly actor...
The ones that say he has no fighting experience, he has fighting experience in street fights, not recorded tv sports.
A master in martial arts, i can assure you he can fight, may be not like a proffesional fighter, but he can fight for sure. The persons that thing that was all tricks and tv stunts are utterly wrong. Like the persons that thing that Van Damme couldn't fight... They chose the more lucrative path, which is normal and intelligent to chose. Also the fighting sport wasn't so popular back then, like it is now. So don't mistake the things, if they knew they'll make millions fighting they'll be fighters and actors.

Its pretty common for actors to be a lot more famous than the people they play. Look at Tom Hanks vs Captain Sully (airplane pilot Russell played). How about Russell Crowe vs John Nash (mathematician Crowe played)? Or all the Hollywood stars who acted as soldiers in war movies?

There are exceptions of course. Winston Churchill is more famous than Gary Oldman (who played him). Muhammad Ali is more famous than Will Smith. Elizabeth I is more famous than Cate Blanchett. But in general the actors are more famous, because publicity is their game.

Bruce Lee is a famous actor. That brings name recognition.

Wanna see his speed? This mother fucker is out here dodging knives before they're even thrown!

I agree with most your points but in no way is calling him a philosopher an insult. His quotes, his sayings, and his teachings in JKD were philosophic in nature it wasn't just a how-to guide, who would take offense to such a comment? because martial arts is an amazing tool of self-development like philosophy is.

bruce lee invented the bulldog choke and put out 5x NBA HW Champion Kareem Abdul Jabar with it

Bloodsport is one of the best fighting movies ever

I train mma, have been for 4 years and i dont understand it, what is your martial arts experiance and how do you get a real grasp of a guy without any fight footage?
And how do you think Bruce would do if he "trained mma for 4 years"? It's obvious just by watching him move that he's a spectacular athlete. He would have mastered in 6 months what you took 4 years to learn.
