Islams skills are impressive

That final takedown via leg drag and the way he transitioned from that into a darce was impressive. Especially in the 5th round after a grueling fight against a live dog like Porier who refused to quit. That takedown was insane, I don't think I've ever seen that in an MMA fight. To improvise like that was truly impressive and to transition from that into a fight finishing submission was even more impressive.

Besides the high level grapples Islam's boxing was really impressive too. Dustin is widely considered to be one of the best boxers in all of MMA. The list of names he's stopped with his hands is long and a lot of people were questioning if Islam had the skills and the balls to stand with Dustin for extended periods of time.

Islam not only stood with Dustin but he hurt him early with almost no feeling out process and showed some great defense and counters. He used angles and made Dustin miss a lot and landed some really clean shots of his own. For a guy who's known for his grappling I was really impressed with his his boxing; defensively and offensively and even late in the fight when he was tired he was still taking risks and controlling things.

Also Islam's knees from the clinch were fantastic. I've been to a lot of Muay Thai/ Kickboxing events in my life and even got to see the great Saenchai fight multiple times. When I say Islam's knee from the clinch is as good as some pro Muay Thai fighters I've seen I really mean that and I know what I'm talking about. He was quick at applying the Thai clinch and the speed of those knees was really impressive too. He nearly knocked Justin out with one of those knees.

On top of all these skills Islam also knocked out Volk with a high kick which is just scary. He's so dangerous everywhere and is capable of finishing guys late in the fight when he's tired. Easily one of the most skilled and well rounded guys in MMA.

Islam has now subbed Oliveira, knocked out Volk with a high kick and stood with Porier for extended periods of time and submitted him late in the fight when he was exhausted.

The guy is a machine.
Yeah we fucking know

Yeah we fucking know
Nah bro

that shit was sick.

How he snatched that leg and did the dragon screw leg whip and then came down on it like babababababbbang! and that snatched that neck like GA DOOSH

and Porier going oh GOD

and the crowd going oh SHIT

And then Porier taps right and Islam lts it go and THEN Porier died when he let it go and they carted him away in a coffin like in Samurai Showdown.

With that being said, I'm not sure they work harder than everyone else. As for their religious strictures, there are other Islamic nations like Indonesia that don't produce the same results.
You are doing these Dagestanis fighters disservice with just this statement. I'm a muslim from Indonesia and I can assure you that comparing me to average Indonesian muslims I'd be a strict and devoted one and I don't hold a candle to these Dagestanis' standard when it comes to following religion.

I think their big advantage is they have such strong and deep institutions to start the children so early with wrestling and grappling. They also are 'promiscuous' with their styles, freely mixing many grappling forms into something that works. I can't help but feel the gap is closing due to the sheer volume of people training in similar ways now. We'll see in 10 years I guess lol.
This is something that is still lacking in Indonesia. It's understandable because mostly we are obsessed with football, badminton, and recently archery. Combat sport is still in its infancy here.

You clearly have more knowledge than me here, so I will defer to you. I guess my broader point is that religiosity (including Islamic) does not seem to confer performance advantages in any other sport. I would be surprised if it did so in MMA. Japanese and Americans are work-obsessed and I am sure there are a significant number that work as hard as any other Dagestani athlete.

Its just the people who discredited Khabib's skills just moving over to Islam now that it is he who is beating the shits out of their fav fighters.
100%

it’s classic “my feelings were hurt, thus I hate” pettiness

Dustin was a gimme fight for Makhachev (Farter's plan bless), everybody knew it from the moment it was announced. Dustin only had a puncher's chance or had to rely on a freak injury like Makhachev breaking his own leg while executing a takedown. On paper Makchachev had all kinds of advantages: size, age, cardio, grappling. But he didn't look all that impressive. Perhaps he should fight more often in jurisdictions with athletic commissions against opponents with a full training camp.
