Islam vs. Volkanovski - Who won?

it was a close fight. When i saw the 49-46 I thought one of the judges really fucked Islam because it made more sense giving rds 1 and 2 to Volk than RD 3 to Islam

I scored it 48-47 Islam but hoped judges had it the other way because with exception of Islam holding onto Volks back none of the rounds were as dominate as rounds 3 and 5 but obviously not 10-8 rounds. I need to rewatch RD 2 I thought it was close.

I hope Volk gets a #1 contenders fight against Poirier in the fall and gets to run it back with Islam when he wins . I think he is the only guy in the division that can beat Islam right now.

48-47 Volk definitely. And without a doubt he finished stronger and less tired. Better fighter tonight. I have never seen Islam holding someone for 4 minutes and doing absolutely nothing, even being obviously flustered. But that finish was beautiful, he demolished Islam.

Islam won the fight but both men had a spectacular showing and gave it their all. The momentum was shifting in Volk’s favour near the end and it was a close, competitive fight. I would be glad for a rematch down the road, just to see their talents for another 5 rounds and the adjustments they make. Neither fighter disappointed tonight. That was thrilling from start to finish.

I love Volk but Islam won, but I think Volk surprised everyone with his ability to hang with him in the grappling, including me

You majority voting thinking that Islam won, yall aren't real mma fans if you think controlling someone while getting outstruck on the feet and ground and in damage, is winning.

If you know anything about MMA judging, Islam won 48-47 and it's pretty easy to judge.
Give everybody a couple of days and let them watch the fight without being emotionnally invested and they'll give 3 rounds to Islam.

Now if this was not round by round there is a case for Volk winning the fight but the rules are the rules.

Yes I know the rules but doesn't mean I have to agree with them. For me , volk won the fight...Islam won the ufc match.

I think Islam won by panic hugging but volk clearly caused more damage. Volk figured out how not to get hugged by the end and would dominate a rematch.

Islam beat Volk standing and on the ground. Only thing Volk had going for him was getting up

And the very last 45 seconds of round 5 where Islam was staggered but didn't eat any real shots in guard as he sighed in relief, counting the seconds until the end of the round.

You gotta admit latching on to the back for dear life while causing no damage, and being punched in the face and taunted the whole time, is a pretty shitty way to win a round that was the only reason in winning the fight.
