Islam vs Ilia serious question

Not just Ilia. I’d say that Ilia and Arman back to back would be more impressive than JDM and mummy Usman.
JDM is a great win, fans are downplaying it only because Islam soundly dominated him. Not so fast with Usman, though. Islam would like that fight and I know Dana has a soft spot for Usman, but they might just give it to the rightful number one contender.

If Islam fought him at 155, many of you would say beating a 145 guy with no wins against top 155 guys is meaningless.
There is no pleasing some of you.
170 is harder than 155 right now
Tbh, I didn’t even think about if 170 is harder than 155 when I replied. I was just thinking about the matchup in the topic. And to answer which division is harder for any of these two guys, we need to see them defend their belts multiple times (which I think is unfortunately not going to happen in either case), because now one of them won the belt against a washed up guy who was never that good and the other against a guy who got lucky to jump to the title fight and won the belt from a guy who was never good and so was not even supposed be a champion and of course never was good. This is what I have learned reading sherdog.

So it’s hard to say if they are good or not, because there is not much proof from them being ever any good, other than beating fighters who were never really good.

This kind of thinking is the problem. Staying in one weight class, cleaning it out, and smashing the title defense record is absolutely more impressive than a questionable run and then moving up to beat a mid champion who isn’t even the best guy in that division.
he already cleaned out the division.

He even already let a FW come try and get a second belt off him already

Ilia and Arman say hello. Far and away the two best guys in the division rn.

I think Ilia is trouble at 155 and when he moved up there was a lot of hype around him. That fight should have happened in the summer. Ilia going up to 170, especially now when Mofo has had time to take that Russian creatine, is a complete joke and has not that buzz anymore. Ilia is too small for 170. They missed the opportunity for this superfight.

It’s as ridiculous as Khamzat cutting down to 170 and stealing a second belt. But I see that as the more realistic case.

Ilia started his career as a 135er and while hes very dense and thick, 155 is a pretty far leap even for his frame...I feel like Arman is noticeably bigger and maybe an inch or two taller than Ilia. Ilia should never chase Islam up to 170 and to be frank, at 34...Islam should never move back down either. The fight missed us, have Islam face Morales and Ilia face Arman. Life goes on.

Yes it would've been more impressive to beat Ilia before moving up and beating Jack.

Are you retarded

Long time ago. Short notice debut for Arman. Clearly stepped his game up. Would be a quality rematch win. Agree, he pulled out with a tummy ache, but that was still the dude.
so many excuses

Arman had 2 chances to beat Islam and couldn't even get in the cage the second time.

rank squatters shouldn't be rewarded

Either or would have been impressive in my book. But obviously on paper winning another belt is better for the fighters resume.

Ilia is a badddd dude. His momentum/hype is rightfully huge right now

Literally nobody is saying Jack isn't a good win.

It's also just obvious he wasn't actually the best WW in the world, was handpicked by Islam for that reason, and Islam clearly avoided Ilia or Arman to fight him instead that's causing people to "downplay" the win.

how tf was he handpicked? he was literally the champion

avoided arman?? LMAOOOO come on man you sound like an absolute idiot

I love Ilia but this is another case of hype and hate creating a perfect storm of hopeful self-delusion. Ilia has a lot of hype with those spectacular KOs and not a few people hate on Islam and his team for some reason that Ilia has become that last great hope of putting these "Dagis" back down to Earth.

Truth is, Islam is bigger, more disciplined in the standup than Ilia's previous opponents, and always has the takedown threat and grappling to take it wherever he wants to. That camp does not make a lot of mistakes, too.

Ilia is very good and is must-see TV, but he ain't beating Islam unless it's that literal puncher's chance.
