Islam should not receive a title shot if he beats Bobby Green.

When it comes to Islam/Khamzat, they would be favored against the contenders of their division and none of the top guys who would give them a title shot will fight them. There has to be some sort of fast pass to a title shot because you're wasting a good chunk of their prime so they "deserve" a title shot. The reality is the only guys to give them a titleshot don't want the fight because they will never get a title if they fight. Catch 22.

That said Green is so underrated and is a very good striker and wrestler, he's probably the most skilled fighter that Islam could fight and I might even give him a better chance than Dariush because of his wrestling background.
 
People only take dangerous last minute fights like this if they get a title shot or a wad of cash.

Islam is getting a TS and Bobby is getting a wad of cash.

Deal with it.

I think he should still get a shot based off a win here. I only wish it was a more competitive match up. I like Bobby but damn, Islam is gonna roll through him without breaking a sweat.
 
If Islam gets clowned and still wins like Edwards/Diaz -- then no TS.

If Islam dominates and gets the early finish -- TS.

Put pressure on Islam not to disappoint -- but his next fight should be from the shortlist of fighters ranked above him, including the Champ.
 
Situation sucks. But Islam shouldn't be punished for taking on a tough opponent in order to be, realistically, one fight away from a title fight, and then that tough opponent getting hurt and the best option they have for short notice is a step down and huge shift in style matchup


Ufc should tell Islam behind the scenes they can get him a title shot if he wins dominantly. He might not get a shot for boring 30-27 super safe win, because someone fighting for a belt should be able to put someone like Bobby Green away.

He should get one, and I'm not even an Islam fan.

At the end of the day, he was ready to go for the title eliminator against the #3 guy, and the #3 guy pulled out (reason is irrelevant). Not only will there be nobody ahead of him in the runnings for the winner of Gaethje/Oliveira, but you can't punish the guy for something beyond his control.

Why do people even hate him? He's a solid fighter and comes off like a genuinely nice guy.

Yeah, his style isn't as intense or dominant as Khabib's was, but Khabib is Khabib.

You need to beat a top 5 opponent to fight for title unless your ex/current champion moving up to challenge a champion or a champion somewhere else and coming over...

That said Green is taking a huge risk and a win here should push him very high for sure...if not to a title shot...he has no business being in this fight and the upset at this point would be huge...

The criteria for who gets a title shot isn't fixed, it's relative to what's happening in the division. There is nobody who has a stronger case than Islam if he beats Green.

If your khabibs friend or conor sure the criteria isnt fixed but if your tony ferguson or Raphael Assunscao apparently ur not there yet LOL..

This is why I didn’t want Islam to take this fight. Already got the naysayers saying this doesn’t count if he beats Green.
 
This is similar to Khabib's Al Iaquinta fight, first Tony got injured/pulled out, then Holloway couldn't make weight in short notice then only option was Al so Khabib handled the business. Khabib was heavy favorite against both Tony and Holloway anyways, it was not Khabib's fault, his title shot shouldn't get robbed again in 2018 as it happened in 2016 with Conor and Alvarez.

So Tony lost his chance due to other unlucky reasons.

Dariush lost his chance as well due to unlucky circumstances, and the betting odds were already on Islam's favor, and Dariush wasn't even close to being favorite against Islam, so you can't punish Islam for this.

He should get his title shot over a replacement fight since Dariush won't be ready soon. Dariush is unlucky like Tony was in 2018. That doesn't mean other people shouldn't get their title shots and not fight for the title.

Vettori also got a title shot over a replacement fight such as Kevin Holland. While you can argue Holland is better opponent, Islam also has better win streak and more dominant than Vettori is.

If you are still not satisfied then you should criticize UFC for not finding a higher ranked replacement fighter, Islam should get his title shot with a win no matter what.

Islam beats Dariush easily.. not sure why people even excited for that. Dariush is great but just give Islam the title fight asap -- nobody can duck him anymore if he's champ and you'll see Dariush fight for the belt soon anyway.
