Islam should not receive a title shot if he beats Bobby Green.

He shouldn't, but the UFC seems to want to push that turkey.

Depends on how long Beneil will be out and how much damage the winner of Charles/Gaethje takes. If both Islam and the champ come out relatively unscathed, I don't see why he shouldn't receive the shot.

Chad Mendes rematched Aldo after beating Nik Lentz, someone I'd argue is at the same, if not a lower level than Green.
and Guida and Elkins and Meza and Mckenzie.
Chad was on a 5 fight-win streak including 3 top ten wins.

Champion Olivera wants to be prolific.

Translation: Charles wants to defend a lot.

Anything going on with the top 10 that delays Charles from defending a lot is stupid and keeps us from seeing the best 155 division talent in history fighting each other in their primes.

Bad break for Beneil for sure... But no way should this slow down the division and the Champion staying busy, which FORCES the Top 10 to also keep busy. Thus we are entertained.

You can't blame Islam for this so he'll likely just end up with one of the easiest routes to the title in recent history considering his strength of schedule.

This will be back to back late replacements that shouldn't be fighting. Green honestly shouldn't even get licensed to fight a ranked opponent a few weeks after a 3 round decision. The UFC does ridiculous stuff like that, I don't see how you can blame the fighters.

Presumably Dariush goes right back to a title eliminator upon return.

I say this fight should still be a #1 contender fight. Tne other guys all sound so boring. It doesnt make sense for Islam to not fight for the title at this point with how dominant he has been and I'd love to see Green get a title fight just because I always root for him and hes on a roll.

While I think that it's a lay up for Islam, I can't argue against many of the Sherbronis here- it's not his fault, and it would be a waste of precious career time to make him come back again for a title eliminator. So what if his title eliminator fight isn't against a tough stylistic match up, you can never "clean out the division" exhaustively as a contender in MMA, too many scheduling variables.

So yeah, I was going to bitch about easy career trajectories, but I've changed my mind. I see no problem in giving Islam a title shot if he wins, worst case scenario if he really isn't worthy, is him getting murked by do Bronx.

Rafa is fighting Rafa, Dariush has a serious injury. You can’t duck when you have a fight set or when you are injured. What a stupid thing to think buddeh.

Coincidence?

It'd be interesting if the roles were reversed and it was Islam that had to pull out. For some reason I don't think too many people would be calling for Beneil to wait for Islam..

Bobby Green doesn't deserve a title shot. Freak surprise wins happen. Doesn't mean that just because you beat a high ranked guy you deserve to jump 20 places. If you were to give random guys outside of the top 15 title shots some of them would win. A champion shouldn't be crowned because of one good fight. The best champs are the ones who proved they can continuously hang with the top and not just be catapulted up there rankings in one throw.

TS is a known retard around here. don't try to understand his logic
I think calling another poster a name is a TOS--just a heads up.
Mod's don't seem to care about calling out people's behavior but personal attacks get yellows sometimes.
Calling people a troll does seem to be an exception though.

I wonder who else got offered this fight. No way Green was their first choice.
It's a valid point, but being a late replacement is tricky.
Huge opportunity for Green so it's a no-brainer to take it.
But if you are in the top 10 and they ask you to fight arguably the most dominant guy in the weight class not holding the belt, it could basically stall out any chances to fight him again with a full camp if the fight doesn't go well.

That said, life is short and not every opportunity is perfect. And the perfect one may never come. A full camp but a bad weight cut, or minor injury towards the end, or even just trouble sleeping before the fight could all play just as big a role as being a short notice replacement.
But I suspect most of the top-10 is already booked, or dealing with injury/other circumstance and it would have messed up a lot of other things to book someone else. Scheduling is tricky. Guys fight 3x a year at most typically, for a reason, it takes time to prepare and then heal up after a fight. Bobby Green may be in as good of a situation as possible for this short notice fight--still relatively good shape after fighting recently and taking minimal damage during the last fight.
+It's a huge opportunity for him that he won't likely see again, other guys probably believe they can earn this fight.

I can assure you Islam wouldn't have accepted this fight if Dana & Shelby didn't promise him a title shot if he won.

Dariush/Islam was supposed to be the #1 contender fight, so why should Islam be penalized and have his career put on hold because of another fighters injury?

Islam is getting the next title shot. It's settled. Find something else to complain about TS.

of course bobby should get a shot if he wins, he would have more top 5 wins than islam has and he would have won the number 1 contender fight.

fighting an unranked fighter and getting a title shot makes no sense, that is why islam shouldnt get it with a win over bobby.

It did. And I bet you didn't like that and you didn't think it was right.

I don't really lose anything by Islam getting a shot. I'm just a fan watching this shit. But what I said was no lie, both of them get special treatment by fighting replacements.

We're all human, shit happens to all of us and there's a list of amazing fighters that had their careers derailed cause of random unfortunate events. Some of them got special treatment, some of them didn't.

At the end of the day, I'd rather watch Charles vs Islam than Gaethje. If there's a fighter that REALLY shouldn't get a title shot it's Gaethje. No basis in anything, not popularity, not merit, not anything.

Tony got injured, then max stepped up, then Al

What was the UFC supposed to do? The title was held hostage by a guy for 18 months, if they had of rescheduled? then there would have effectively been 2 years with no title fights in arguably the most stacked division

Khabib is guilty of a few things, but that fight was nor his fault. The guy was offered a contract to spook Eddie into fighting Conor. He put his head down and smashed his way to the top

This is also not Islam's fault
Shit happens
