Even taking into account PPV points its a pretty low purse for a multiple defense champ, the UFC is famous for their "backstage bonuses" that can reach up to 1 milliion, so my guess is this is tax related, specially since Islam and most of Ali's fighters really, gets taxed from 2 countries and probably gets taxed more in America than an American fighter.Lol. Obviously that ignores PPV points etc but it's still hilarious.
But you wouldn't be paying 50% on all the 500k. That's not how taxes workyes, but not paying taxes on money means you get more percentage of the money. if i negotiate for a 500k a fight contract, and then i have to pay 50% in taxes, i make less money than if i ask for 250k a fight, but get 200k in "backroom bonuses" or "under the table" payments whatever you want to call it.

They still gotta pay tax on bonuses, especially now they're owned by TKO, cant just slide guys a briefcase full of cash like the Pride Yakuza days.
It's about paying taxes in California.
They are at 25-35% federal tax rate, then add in 15% state taxes, plus SSI tax.
If they get bonuses paid not in the state of California and instead in Florida where they might live, there's no state income tax in Florida. Instant 15% raise!
The champ gets paid like the champ. He deserves to earn less than short-notice replacements he gets.
The disclosed payouts should not be reported by the media as they are misleading
(Granted, I've also been guilty about writing threads about these numbers. Cause the confusing part is SOME numbers seem accurate (like how Reem had one of the highest payouts for a while) which in the past made me think they weren't entirely wrong .. but now I've realised they are so often implausible they should be ignored)
Also the fighter dont want his people to know how much he got.Yeah, they obscure the pay as much as possible, so that it's extreme difficult for fighters to try to negotiate.
Nobody knows what's going on unless someone gives explicit details of their deals, and nobody is going to do that to avoid pissing off management
