Merab did that, has Islam even said anything about it? Khabib said Ilia should fight 1 contender first to get himself ranked and they'd be happy to fight him, which is more than fair considering him beating the #1 p4p twice was discredited as "picking on a FW".

Merab was completely correct that Umar hadn't done shit for a shot. Even his win against Sandhagen was blown out of proportion with Dagi fans claiming it was a "dominant masterclass" because of the 50-45 judge when in reality it was a close 48-47 fight.
He got his title shot and he's the only guy to be emoted on in a title fight in years.

The Team Eagle Khabib quotes about Topuria not deserving a fight and how Arman, a guy that Islam has already beaten, is a greater challenge on the other hand felt like pure metaphysical ducking, but team eagle is great at the "have those two contenders fight in order to fight me" game, can't blame them for it, just like I can't blame Islam that apparently only FWs want to challenge for the LW title.

He wouldn't have started a camp if he's going to WW, or maybe he's doing both. If JDM wins, he's going to WW, but that wouldn't be till the fall, so he could fight Ilia first.

he most Likely does. I have been cheering for Islam every fight (muslim bias) but ever since his fight against Ryan Hall I've been saying Topuria has the makings of a GOAT. That knockout of Ryan made me a life long Topuria fan and I can actually see him knocking out Islam in an exchange. Only issue for me is if Topuria has the Submission defense coz Islam has a thing where he gives you a transition to get up after a takedown but locks a front choke during it has has caught some fo the best submission artists with it. With that being said Topuria is insanely well rounded along with being the best boxer in UFC. I would say 60% Topuria wins by KO 40% change Islam catches him in a transition to get up on the feet after a takedown. Thiis is such a good high level and intriguing fight

Can't blame Islam, he has fought Volk twice...more title fights vs 145ers than 155ers. Ilia should earn it with a number 1 contender bout and Arman vs Makh II gets rebooked. Now I hope we get Arman vs Poirier/Gaethje/Holloway/Pimblett.

It's a strange argument when both of those featherweights would beat any lightweight. The Volkanovski that fought Islam would have beat any lightweight bar Islam, past or present in that first fight.
