Nobody would be mad at, or criticize Jones over this if he wasn’t holding the belt hostage.

He should have gave up the belt when he was injured then got Stipe as a retirement fight. He could have saved face, got the fight he wanted and rode off peacefully into the sunset. Instead, his bizarre desire to hold onto a paper belt has tarnished his career and made him the laughing stock of MMA.

Dude was one of the best ever but will be remembered for being the biggest duck in the sport. Ironically, he fought the best his whole career and ducked nobody up until this. He has every right to pick his retirement fight if he would give up the belt to do so. That’s the issue - the belt. And it obviously bothers him because he comments on it every day.
