Palmyra is once again under attack and is close to being overrun. With the Syrian army tied up in Aleppo, ISIS just might recapture the city. For Assad, victory in Aleppo is more important than anything else at this point.

-Isis declare palmyra taken! reports of still some regime milita in airport
One Ammo dump destroyed before city fell
Outlaying areas taken include an operational gas field
They are 8km now from the T4 airbase.

-anar al sham may be splitting into 2 camps
One opposed to working with turkey the other pro

-regime siezes disused base in daara....dunno point of provoking southern front when its stood down for now vs regime

-al bab siezure apparently going well isis expected to retreat into old city part of it

Spoils captured by IS in Palmyra.

(un)Organized retreat indeed.

Kiselyov has a report on Russian SOF in his weekly show including rare footage of them in Syria, starting from 45:40.

Tiyas airbase is next on the highway now that whole palmyra region is virtualy with isis control ...its a much bigger prize
Isis have seized a old base beside it and airstrikes reported near it.
Given the wide open spaces plus ruaf and foriegn and local regime militas scrambling to blunt this offensive itl be a hard nut for isis to crack

Edit unconfirmer report of isis xmas presents from regime in palmyra.
30 x tanks
6 x bmp
6 x 122/7 mm guns
7 x 23 mm guns
Lots of light ammo, small arms atgms and grads
Prob vastly inflated
Video seems to show 11 pieces of armour at least though.

Thats Aleppo. I thought the whole city was in ruins. I havent followed the war for a while so that could have been true a few years ago.

Also I thought IS was being cleared from the deserts yet they are retaking Palmyra and threatening T4 again. Werent they in this position a few years back....

There was siege i recall a few years ago. IS vs the SAA............

****Its Deir Ezzor***

Legendary Turkish incompetence. They are in for a rude awakening if they think that will work in the Syrian theater.

There was siege i recall a few years ago. IS vs the SAA, the SAA nearly lost it but fought and regained large swathes of the city. Anyone know what city im talking about, its right on the tip of my tongue but cant recall it atm.

Jihadistan is not going away. One thing Whoyougonnacall is right about, maybe the only thing, is that rabid Sunni militants are a permanent feature in the region, and Western Syria and Eastern Iraq are probably going to have to just put up some walls and partition Jihadistan off to wither in the desert between them. If they are lucky, they can funnel the jihadis up to Turkey; they certainly won't let them migrate down southwards to the Gulf, because the Gulf Arabs would sooner die than take in Sunni Arab refugees from the war. They'd shoot the refugees on sight if they tried.
