everyone on here seems to make more money than me, be in better shape, and use vocabulary I have never even heard of.

Cheer up brah, it's not that serious. Try not to focus so much on what you don't have or what you don't know and more on the things you do have and things you do know. I'm not established in my career yet either but you just gotta keep plugging away.

By the way TS, 60K pounds for a job you enjoy sounds awesome but it really depends on your expenses. My sis makes us75K her husband makes us60K with no kids and two small dogs and they're barely getting by. Student loans and living in a top ten expensive city in the country are taking a toll.

If you buy expensive cars, eat out all the time, buy a home theatre, a dyson ball vacuum, collect blue rays, buy your kids american girl dolls and playstation games -then yeah you are going to struggle like most American families who are plagued with debt and cannot fathom the idea of living within their means

but it would work for families who are not under the pressure to play "keepin up with the joneses".

If you are ok buying a suitible size modest house, driving cars until they die, teaching your kids to play in the yard/woods -being creative, teach your kids hobbies like checking out books to read, and being wise with your time and money -then you can live comfortably on much much less.

The world has plenty to offer that is not in a store.

In any case, of course you could live off that.

Im actually going to be assisting for a spot in my company for a month startign this thursday. Its a position that i highly doubt i will like compared to my current position. However, the pay is an extra 35k a year about. Do i give up a job i love for an extra 35k? My guess is yes, but ill have a better idea after this next month.

I saw an interesting article on how the regular 80 dollar Hoover out performs the Dyson that is 5-6 times the money.

However Americans are obsessed with status and Dyson reinforces this to them -even if the design really isn't solving any real concerning problem.

There isn't a vaccuum in the world that is enough better than the 60s electrolux I grew up using -to warrant spending big money on IMO -I've been in debt most of my life and am almost free and have to think like this.

I don't understand why you are disagreeing with me. I said you can't live like a king on that salary with a family of 4. Unless you consider living like a king = buying a suitable size modest house, driving cars until they die, teaching your kids to play in the yard/woods

Yeah I don't know where people are getting this idea that you can't live decently off 100k with a family, even in a pricier place like California.

Median household income in the US is only like 50k.

You're right though that most people are obssessed with status, and 100k isn't going to let you take twice a year vacations to Aruba and drive around in a fully loaded Audi A8.

I don't know anything about Dyson but Hoover sucks ass. I had a Hoover in grad school and I wanted to throw that fucking thing in the garbage every time I used it. We have a Miele is both of our houses. One is 17 yrs old the other 4 yrs old. They kick ass.

Our family had Electrolux when I was kid in Europe. Solid.
