Why did he join the UFC so late? People used to say he wasn't any good and was just made to look good vs less than stellar opposition.

I think he proved to those people wrong.

But is he past his prime?

Probably.

I think he was fine w bein the big fish in the small pond. Maybe it was the right thing for his career, money wise. I dont think he would have been champ in UFC at any time.

because if you come in late it comes in with the built in excuse "that I'm later in my career and just looking for fun fights" and or whatever they say.

Had he come into the UFC during his prime then got destroyed, there is no excuse.

Of course he is. Any time you’re not in your prime you’re either past it or haven’t reached it yet.

So you dont buy that he was padding up his record and didnt want to risk his ego?
It could be all of those things. One more than the other. We can only speculate which meant more.

Yeah.. but older guys have been champ. You never know.

It's hard to say. He hasn't shown any visible decline. Also, it's his grappling that was his weakness, and had more time to work on it.

Usually, a striker like that at 38 I would say is but for him, I don't necessarily think so. I mean look at wonderboy, he is turning 42 this year and looked just fine in his last 30s.

I lean towards him not being out of his prime.

Sometimes these things are not as cut and dry as people make it out. Sometimes a aging fighter simply adjusts the way they fight and look good doing it, so for appearances sake, it all looks up to snuff.

No, but that sounds like a pretty sweet deal if he was getting paid more in Bellator and fighting easier competition. That sounds like the dream.

He hasn't lost speed?

yeah it's hard to say, but if i have to guess, i think he still looks good though

Too bad we never saw Doumbe vs MVP. Probably most interesting match up for the guy.
