Is this the first time ever that the 145 champ could reasonably beat the welterweight champ?

Belal is one of the weakest champs in UFC history in terms of finishing ability, and thus doesn’t really threaten Ilia in any way except the possibility of winning on points. Since Topuria doesn’t have to worry about Belal’s power despite the size advantage, he can freely fish for a knockout.

Ilia also beat max easily, who is 5’10 - belal is the same height and not huge for 170. Thoughts?

Just because you don’t like his personality doesn’t mean he sucks. He’s beaten 10 legit guys in a row. Belal is objectively good and far to big for Ilia to beat

I mean, the guy was FW and LW champion...THAT guy, not the guy that we ended up with a few years after.
Even the worst Conor fans never claimed he could take the 170lb title while he was still at FW.
It's taken almost a decade, but we've found a fan base that's slightly more retarded.

Belal likes to fight on the inside, unlike Max who is a better boxer and can fight outside.

His jab and 3 inches more reach will leave Ilia with an all red face or cut though.

Belal is 36 and only will get worse. Ilia is 27 and only will get better.

So let's say Ilia would be 25 pounds heavier to stop the takedown, then he easily would knock Belal out.
But they will never fight. Belal has like 2 years left. Doubtful he will stay champion that long.
And Ilia does not have enough time to bulk up

There have been six 145 champs in the UFC
Aldo
McGregor
Holloway
Volkanovski
Yair Rodriguez
Ilia Topuria

Out of all six, I believe the only two to ever fight at Welterweight were McGregor and Volkanovski
Mcgregor is 1-2(?) at Welterweight, Volk is 4-1
Holloway, Yair, Aldo, Topuria never tested themselves at welterweight, although am open to correction.

So I think you'd have to credit the guys who have actually fought at welterweight over someone like Topuria who never tested himself against welterweight opponents, i.e. Volk or McGregor.

Man, Belal gets no respect.

He ran through so many top 10 guys on the way to the title, and people still treat him like some sort of bum. Mark this post, he will beat Shavkat (and he would absolutely murk Topuria)

He got 3 big wins and his fans talk about belal.

Fart loudly in weigh-in and to goat discussion you go. Fuck this add scene.

Khabib fans think he can beat Jon Jones because he is world sambo champion so that retarded fanbase you were looking for always there

Topuria would KO him pretty easily.

His striking is light years above Belal's will ever be, and he has more than enough power to knock him out cold.

Belal would be waking up and spitting teeth within 2 rounds.

He's not a bum. I like him alot.

But he didnt really run though anyone. He's kind of like Ankalaev. Just a very basic meat and potates style... although I enjoyed very much his fight with Leon, and not just for the trolling, I really though it was a good fight.

I do think Topuria does have a chance though. Belal cant jab just his way in like he did with Leon. He gonna have to fine tune his entries.

Yea I remember the "Jon Jones has never actually faced a Sambo fighter" threads. At least 50% of Dagestani fighter fans are simply people of similar ethnicity or religion that have less than zero knowledge of fighting.

The people that think that type of shit have never been in a gym a day in their lives. I walk around 205-215, grappling with guys that are equal level and have 30lbs on me is fucking exhausting. A true cut to 265 HW is impossible. The strength difference is just impossible to surpass with equal technique.

Imagining a top 5 all time champion losing to another champion they outweigh by 50lbs+ is so extraordinarily laughable that I just ignore those types of opinions completely, as worthless as bots spamming.

I think Mcgregor might be 2-1 at WW but thats against career LW´s, Volk hasnt tested WW in recent times while in the UFC.

Get banned for unfettered Belal hate so you had to create a new account to make this stupid fucking thread?

I was going to point to BJ Penn taking the title from Matt Hughes back in 2004. Then I realized you said 145 champ.

Who are these schoolgirls?
I cannot sanction this buffoonery.

He didn’t run through anyone. He grinds out decisions tooth and nail. Maybe he “ran through” Wonderboy, but that isn’t a surprise since Belal is a blanket and Wonderboy is a pure karate guy.
