Removal of dams to revive salmon population
Stossel breaks down the buffoonery
- dams did kill some of the salmon population, but due to the ladder systems put into the dams, the salmon have been recovering for many years. On top of that, unchecked population of seals is another reason for dwindling population of salmon.
- the dams produce as much power as solar and water combined.............................
- people would be out of electric
side research
salmon looks to be in good shape.
Global production: In 2022, more than 2.8 million tons of farmed salmonids were produced, compared to around 640,000 tons of wild salmonids caught. (Source: ‘Salmon industry - statistics & facts’, published date: Tuesday, March 12, 2024) - nowhere near extinction
one of the endangered types of salmon: Chinook
Between 1970 and 2015, we estimate that the annual biomass of Chinook salmon consumed by pinnipeds (seals/sea lions) has increased from 68 to 625 metric tons. Converting juvenile Chinook salmon into adult equivalents, we found that by 2015, pinnipeds consumed double that of resident killer whales and six times greater than the combined commercial and recreational catches.
The problem is goddamn nature.................
How come the cows don't get to reclaim their land? Imagine giving cows back their natural habitat undisturbed...... we'd have no damn cities.
and the grift
-The draft agreement says the government will help plan and pay for tribes in the Pacific Northwest to develop enough clean energy resources to serve as replacement power for the lower Snake River dams, whether or not Congress authorizes dam removal.
good working energy is being removed from one industry and being pumped into another. A boom for solar and wind, which I'm not opposed to since I have my own solar system, but to tear one down a working system for another is shameful. The strain on the environment to tear down one industry to then rebuild in another form must be enormous, and the costs WILL be passed onto the consumers, who will cry about higher electric costs.....
Hydro is now the devil just like nuclear, the environmental game of thrones.

Leaked document says US is willing to build energy projects in case Snake River dams are breached
In a strong sign that the U.S. will consider breaching four controversial dams on the Snake River, a leaked Biden administration document says the government is prepared to help build clean energy projects to replace the power generated by the dams.
